I'm a rationale conservative - can you convince me voting rights legislation is needed?

Most states already do that.

But not the ones in GOP control with high African American populations.

Which ones?

Nothing to add except I used to work for LTG Hertling, and he is a great man. One of the best leaders I had.

Interesting that he hasn't included some of the other issues that aren't so nice.....like diverting tax payer money to campaigns and requiring ballot harvesting.

Some of the issues I have.... Why make election day a federal holiday if you have 15 days of early voting?
His definition of "anti-voting" laws is not defined. And, if you listen to Biden, some of the things he has highlighted are not anti-voting at all. He even got 4 Pinocchios for his comments on the GA law.
I am against automatic voter registration or the same day registration.
Against using utility bills and bank statements for ID...... Last I checked no photo on either of these.

What is wrong with motor-votor laws? That seems like ano-brainer, and yet you oppose that too?

I didn't say I was against motor voter laws. As long as the person has proof of citizenship.

OP, if you are truly “rational”, then whether you are conservative or not, you will recognize the urgent need to strengthen voting rights. If you have no such recognition, then calling yourself “rational” doesn’t make you one.

The problem is that eliminating voter integrity takes away my voting rights.

There is much in that bill that has nothing to do with voting rights, as well.

Do you have any idea how much it costs to have another fe4deral holiday? And, if they are going to require 15 days of early voting to include weekends, it is totally unnecessary to give a holiday.

You could provide evidence that “most states already do that.”

Welp, Senator Sinema just killed this bill and thus any chance of free and fair elections in 2022 and 2024.

We will slip into a GOP tyanny of the Minority Autocracy if the GOP wins the House in 2022.

Pin this post, I would be more than happy to be proven wrong.

Nope. PP was very specific in calling out "red states with high African American populations." So, I am assuming pp knows which states she has in mind.

Actually, they are reasonable questions and concerns. Also, many of these items aren't even a federal power.

There are all sorts of things Trump did that weren't in federal power yet you didn't give a lick about it then, first, and second, standardizing the types of IDs one can use to gain the ability to vote should be a good thing. Why do you think it is ok for gun licenses but not state issued student IDs?

Because a student ID doesn't establish proof of residency. If you go to college out of state, you aren't necessarily a resident of that state.

What hyperbolic nonsense!

Truth is... Sinema is giving cover to a handful of other Dem Senators who are also opposed to what Schumer is trying to do. Note that the other Senator from Arizona has not stated his position on the filibuster.
Don't you wonder why?

And, there is little questions that the Republicans are going to win the House, with or without the partisan bill Schumer was trying to ram through.

Voting rights are not partisan.

Wow some of you really want to usher in the new fascist reich, don’t you?
