Car accidents and scary driving at Whole Foods Tysons

Anonymous
Is it just a fluke that in the past 6 months I have witnessed, heard or arrived to find at least 4 car accidents in the WFM Tyson's parking lot? I have also witnessed a few near/almost accidents. There is no time of day in particular this happens-have been there on weekends, and non-rush hour. I have called the police for a family. I have taken down license plates. And today...a woman almost drove right into my car because she was cutting through a bunch of unused parking spaces. She was above speed limit-so two violations right there and then she tells me off when I honk at her and urge her to be careful so she doesn't harm anyone. I shop just as much at Giant and Safeway and have not witnesses a single accident EVER.

I would stop shopping there, but they have the best produce and allergy safe foods and there are many things I like about the store including some of the people who work there. Is it because the parking lot is too cramped? Do I just have bad luck there? Can they get a surveilance camera so people at least have evidence is a person denies wrongdoing? Am I the only one who is alarmed by the accidents and wild driving there as compared to other stores?

Sounds like the Friendship Heights and Alexandria WF garages to me.

These are some tight poorly designed garages, always packed with tons of gigante SUVs and people driving like idiots. The Alexandria garage is ridiculous. The turn when you get to the bottom of the ramp does not accomodate two cars at once so during busy times they have a guy stand there directing traffic. During nonpeak times there are mirrors so you can kind of sorta see if anyone is coming before you make the blind turn....

I think she's talking about the Falls Church Whole Foods, which, IIRC, is a big surface parking lot, not a parking garage.

Either way, there are some scary bad drivers out there and it sounds like OP found one of them in the Falls Church area.

When did Fairfax County make you the parking lot monitor at Whole Foods on Leesburg Pike? Were you elected or appointed. It is a busy parking lot with a lot of other stores. The parking lot is also on a slant and people should watch where they are going and what they are doing but you aren't the police, so stop acting as though you are because you are probably doing more harm that good. You sound like a major pain in the rear.

You should check out the Whole Foods parking lot rap on Youtube. You are going to love it!

Wow, a rap dedicated to WF parking lots! Can't wait to check it out from home.

I shop at this WF and it is very busy. I haven't witnessed any actual incidents and go there frequently, but I wouldn't be surprised.

My personal pet peeve about driving in that area has to do with driving across the street from Whole Foods to Trader Joes (oh the blessing of having them across the street from each other). There is a light there. A line forms in each parking light. Most cars actually turn left or right and don't go straight. As soon as the light turns green, cars from each direction tend just to shoot forward and begin making left turns and do not yield to oncoming traffic wanting to go straight. They assume everyone is turning and thanks to the fact that so many drivers in this area do not use turn signals, I guess people don't even bother to pay attention to this. Not having a turn signal doesn't mean you're not going to turn. Every time I go straight there I have had someone almost hit me, and if I didn't know about this and weren't being extra super duper cautious, I would have been hit. Dangerous, annoying.

I hate the turn signal culture in this area. HATE IT.

That parking lot is terrible. I hate that WF and that TJs for that very reason.

So the irony is that WF and TJ's customers are ostensibly buying healthier food, yet they are obliterate any health gains by their insane driving. McDonald's here I come.

Um let's see. If I see an accident I don't pretend like it never happened. I take down license plates numbers for those hit and run instances and also if the owner of the car is in the store and needs to be notified. I also offer to call the police. I also care about my own safelty, the safety of my children and the safety of my fellow humans. It saddens me that you don't give a rat's ass about others, but it wouldn't surprise me if you are one of the offenders because you have the same attitude as the other wacky drivers there.

Yes, this too is a problem I notice and hate...^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Others mentioned TJs and I go there too and I hate that parking lot as well, but once again have NEVER seen an accident and I rarely ecounter a downright obnoxious driver. Of course how can you enter and leave TJs with a tude. It's such a peaceful, love everyone type of place and the prices alone put people in a good mood.

Good god -- I don't even live or work in Virginia, but OP's post struck me as an entirely reasonable and thoughtful mention of a community problem. What the hell is your beef?

Thank you PP! OP here...the WFM parking lot Rap at Youtube is hilarious. There are a bunch of funny music videos too. Guess I'm not the only one who hates the WFM parking lot. To the person who mentioned the rap..thanks for the laugh! I needed that!

I've witnessed at least one accident in real time in that parking lot. My blood pressure also rises 10 points every time I have to do a TJ/WF run there. I prefer to go separately to WF fairfax and TJ on Little River just to avoid the chaos!

I don't think it actually works that way.

The rap video by the female comedian is the funniest of them all. I think it's a response the whole foods rap and it's called Revenge of the Black Prius. All of the raps bring up the removal of Kombucha from shelves all over Cali. Why is it still on the shelves here? That stuff made have the worst case of heartburn in my life.
