Car accidents and scary driving at Whole Foods Tysons

I am so glad I do not live near the Leesburg Pike WF and Trader Joe's anymore. I felt like I needed nerves of steel to drive there. I always joke to my husband that area is the land of honking horns the second the light turns green.

I have also witnessed a few near/almost accidents. There is no time of day in particular this happens-have been there on weekends, and non-rush hour. I have called the police for a family. I have taken down license plates. And today...a woman almost drove right into my car because she was cutting through a bunch of unused parking spaces. She was above speed limit-so two violations right there and then she tells me off when I honk at her and urge her to be careful so she doesn't harm anyone. I shop just as much at Giant and Safeway and have not witnesses a single accident EVER.

I would stop shopping there, but they have the best produce and allergy safe foods and there are many things I like about the store including some of the people who work there. Is it because the parking lot is too cramped? Do I just have bad luck there? Can they get a surveilance camera so people at least have evidence is a person denies wrongdoing? Am I the only one who is alarmed by the accidents and wild driving there as compared to other stores?

When did Fairfax County make you the parking lot monitor at Whole Foods on Leesburg Pike? Were you elected or appointed. It is a busy parking lot with a lot of other stores. The parking lot is also on a slant and people should watch where they are going and what they are doing but you aren't the police, so stop acting as though you are because you are probably doing more harm that good. You sound like a major pain in the rear.

Um let's see. If I see an accident I don't pretend like it never happened. I take down license plates numbers for those hit and run instances and also if the owner of the car is in the store and needs to be notified. I also offer to call the police. I also care about my own safelty, the safety of my children and the safety of my fellow humans. It saddens me that you don't give a rat's ass about others, but it wouldn't surprise me if you are one of the offenders because you have the same attitude as the other wacky drivers there.

Are you the woman who was screaming at some poor soul who spoke almost no English? I bet you were and I should have called the police about you. Find another WF and TJs, I go to both all the time
and simply use good old common sense and never have a problem with either store or parking. Of course, I do use the aforementioned common sense and don't go at the busiest time. Try a little common sense sometime and you'll be amazed at how easy it is to shop at both stores.

Anonymous wrote:My personal pet peeve about driving in that area has to do with driving across the street from Whole Foods to Trader Joes (oh the blessing of having them across the street from each other). There is a light there. A line forms in each parking light. Most cars actually turn left or right and don't go straight. As soon as the light turns green, cars from each direction tend just to shoot forward and begin making left turns and do not yield to oncoming traffic wanting to go straight. They assume everyone is turning and thanks to the fact that so many drivers in this area do not use turn signals, I guess people don't even bother to pay attention to this. Not having a turn signal doesn't mean you're not going to turn. Every time I go straight there I have had someone almost hit me, and if I didn't know about this and weren't being extra super duper cautious, I would have been hit. Dangerous, annoying.

I hate the turn signal culture in this area. HATE IT.

I hate driving in this area period, but I guess that's a whole other rant I don't have time for.

I don't have probs shopping at WH/TJ, but I go on weekdays at 9am. It is bliss! As for no one yielding when I go straight, I've found it better to go to TJ first, then turn left and then right into WH parking lot. Then only I have to yield to people going straight and peds.

I refuse to go to that one because of the crazy parking lot. I also won't go into the parking lot at the one in Clarendon.

Is there one with a decent parking lot around? The Vienna one is a mess too.

All of the raps bring up the removal of Kombucha from shelves all over Cali. Why is it still on the shelves here? That stuff made have the worst case of heartburn in my life.
Kombucha is PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kombucha is a type of fermented tea drink with probios in it.

Someone smashed into my friends parked car there while she was inside shopping. Can you imagine if she was still in the car and had her baby with her?

Not sure what the solution is. If the store already has security cameras to pretect their property when it's closed I assume the footage can be accessed if there is a question of who is culpable in an accident. I think they already have some speed bumps? If this is such a common issue that people rap about it, I'm thinking the stores will just assume people will keep coming regardless. I HATE that parking lot, but keep going back.

Wegman's please, please come to this area!! We need you! Please choose an area other than the whole Leesburg Pike corrider to build your beautiful grocery store and make sure there is ample parking! I *heart* Wegmans.

Out of curiosity does fairfax county give out info about about car accidents in a location the way they give our info on crimes?

The WF in Springfield/Burke is really calm - plenty of parking, not crazy . . . .

15:28 I miss that one. We used to live in Burke! You are right-it's more mellow. I wonder if part of the reason is there are more residential areas within walking distance so people don't all drive. Plus, rolling road (was that the name of the road it's off of?) is more mellow than frantic Leesburg Pike? I see people walking around the WFM on the Pike every now and then and drivers barely stop. They are too busy on their cell phones. At the one in Springfield I saw plenty of people walking without incident.

Good lord! It can't be worse than the WFM on River Road in Bethesda. All the diplomats and elderly women from Chevy Chase getting into fist fights over parking spots. Bring a lawn chair and enjoy the show -- just don't try to park.

PK this made me laugh...especially the "bring a lawn chair." Why is it this happens mostly at WFM, but at TJs people sing kum-by-yah and love eachother?

Does it have anything to do with the price point? Maybe all the soy is affecting people's hormones?

It's a situation!
