The Ivy League attorney acts dumber than his ma-maw whenever daddy Thiel gets brought up

I don't think it breeds sociopathy in all cases, but every sociopath origin story I've read seems to start with something like that.

I’m not convinced mom being a junkie is even true. He lied about her being the high school valedictorian (or salutatorian). Mom being a POS junkie with no self-control was a narrative the Sackler family certainly appreciated.

Does the mom have a criminal record? Was her nursing license ever suspended? Fired from her job?

It was the core of him having this allegedly tumultuous childhood. Take away mom being a pill junkie and he’s raised in a decent and safe middle of Ohio suburb (nowhere near Appalachia), in a stable two parent household, both parents gainfully employed, a step-dad who loved him enough to legally adopt him and give him his surname, with nearby grandparents who made enough money to buy a new Buick every year.

I think about Kavanaugh's wife occasionally. Those kids of theirs are getting older. Once they're out off the house and prescriptively off to Yale or Georgetown or Harvard, she's going to be off the table.

It's crazy what you think you see when you're 40, and what you see once you're into your 60s. It's all the same story over time.

Even the "good men" in power leave their wives for the most part.

This is so accurate: "absolute hostages"--indeed. some are on their second or third marriages.

Kavanaugh 's wife is safe because she could write a tell all book and make $$$$$$$$$$!

Hehseth's wife is the epitome. She looks stricken. Very creepy vibes there.

She was knocked up when Hegseth was married to his second wife. A total gold digger. What do women see in Hegseth? Slicked back hair, unusual face, stupid blue suit and tan shoes, and bizarre tattoos. Sounds like a great catch!

Sh-t. I remember we got a new Buick ONCE and my dad acted like it was made of diamonds. I wasn’t even allowed to touch h the ceiling of it (which had this cool plush lining) because I might get fingerprints on it. Incidentally, I also went to Yale Law and I don’t go around acting like I was some sort of pariah who infiltrated the elite, like JD does.

Seems unsuccessful as a gold digger since all her clothes are Temu.

It must sting JD that a new Hungarian leader was inaugurated this weekend after he went to campaign (on US taxpayer dime) for the authoritarian leader who was kicked out.

She follows him around to keep him from drinking. That’s her life’s work.

PP here has done a great job of laying out the possible (probable) fraud in Vance's memoir. My parents were probably around Vance's parents' age, give or take a decade. My parents NEVER bought a new car until mid '90s, NEVER. If you lived in our Midwestern semi-rural neighborhood, you knew the folks who could afford a new car year. No one, no one was buying a Buick.

Now if he were wearing a #buthistansuit, then she would've looked the other way.

Yes. But lately I think she looks like she drinks too or is on something. They both look unhealthy.

I wonder about that too. I read the book when it came out. A lot of hayseed/rube stuff (his Memaw was out of central casting) and the whole thing was a type of rags-to-riches story. It was probably all fiction.

The red flag about the mom is that she was a successful college-educated RN, who married both JD’s bio dad and JD’s step-father who adopted him. Marriage and legal adoption of your son is not the behavior of underclass pill junkies.

Another red flag is JD’s sister is also still in that same area, which he characterized as this backward hellhole full of junkies. Sister is a graduate of Miami of Ohio, I believe.

But his childhood was so austere, JD at age 27 — after military desk duty, undergrad at OSU, internships on the Hill, and mentored by neocons — wrote he didn’t know how to use a fork at dinner. Frazzled JD had to call his anchor baby girlfriend on his cell phone from a restaurant bathroom to learn what utensils to use!

It’s all just so preposterous. The guy’s entire life story is obviously fake.
