calls ICE "Nazi Gestapo thugs" in social media posts criticizing ICE's "kidnapping of our neighbor" in Providence, RI, which he calls an "act of terror", adding that "Providence doesn't want ICE thugs in our city."

The "neighbor" ended up being a MS-13 gang member facing fentanyl charges.

Sanchez posted a series of photos alleging that ICE damaged vehicles during the arrest. I reached out to ICE contacts to ask what happened here.

Three ICE sources with knowledge of this incident tell
@FoxNews
the following:

ICE was targeting a Honduran known MS-13 gang member, IVAN RENE-MENDOZA MEZA, who had pending local charges in RI for fentanyl trafficking and had been released from local custody with ICE's detainer ignored due to sanctuary policies. I'm told it was the 6th District Court in RI that ignored ICE's detainer.

When ICE agents attempted a traffic stop to arrest MENDOZA MEZA, he struck ICE vehicles before bailing out of his car and running into an apartment. He was surrounded and eventually surrendered. I'm told it was ICE vehicles and his own car that were damaged.

A photo of a smirking MENDOZA MEZA in ICE custody is below, courtesy of ICE sources.

In a statement to FOX, ICE is blasting Rep. Enrique Sanchez for his social media posts calling ICE "Nazi Gestapo thugs" over the incident, which were posted on Instagram, Facebook, and X:

"Mr. Sanchez thinks so little of his community he refers to ruthless MS-13 as "neighbors". What say you, Providence? The only thugs we see are the illegal terrorist gangbangers we are trying to remove from the neighborhoods of Providence."

- ICE spokesperson Emily Covington

Face it. If it were up to democrats not one illegal alien would be deported. Not even the gangbangers or the criminals.
92 percent of people deported have no criminal record, dummy. He ran on getting rid of criminals but that’s not what’s happening.
Illegal immigration is a crime.

A civil violation, not a crime.

False.

8 U.S.C. § 1325 criminalizes illegal entry.
Any alien who (1) enters or attempts to enter the United States at any time or place other than as designated by immigration officers, or (2) eludes examination or inspection by immigration officers, or (3) attempts to enter or obtains entry to the United States by a willfully false or misleading representation or the willful concealment of a material fact, shall, for the first commission of any such offense, be fined under Title 18 or imprisoned not more than 6 months, or both, and, for a subsequent commission of any such offense, be fined under Title 18, or imprisoned not more than 2 years, or both.

And, this piece from 2019:

"In the first two Democratic presidential debates, candidate Julián Castro drew attention to US Code Title 8, Section 1325, a federal law that makes “illegal entry” into the United States a criminal offense. Castro and other candidates have expressed support for repealing the law, while Castro’s fellow Texan Beto O’Rourke called for a broader rewrite of US immigration law.

Section 1325 has received this scrutiny largely because prosecuting people for violating it has contributed to the family separation crisis. If the law were repealed, crossing the border without authorization would remain a civil offense (under 8 US Code § 1182(a)(6)) that carries a penalty of deportation. People would not face criminal penalties for the first unauthorized entry."

Unlawful entry is a crime.

Unlawful presence is not a crime. It’s a civil violation.

Hey, Skippy. Reading is fundamental.

Poster 1: Illegal immigration is a crime.
Poster 2: A civil violation, not a crime.

The citation I posted proved Poster 2 WRONG.
Illegal immigration IS a crime.

The issue is he was arrested for causing a disturbance in a hotel room in Georgia.

Thomas and his girlfriend, Malone, were visiting her family in Savannah, Georgia, when Thomas suffered a mental health episode, he and Malone recalled. The two had a conflict in their hotel room and someone overheard it and called the police, they said.

Malone, who requested to use her middle name to protect her boyfriend’s identity, said she was hoping officers would get him treatment and did not want to see him face criminal charges. But police took him to jail, accusing him of “falsely imprisoning” his girlfriend in the hotel room, a charge Malone said she did not support. He was soon released on bond, but instead of walking free, was picked up by US immigration authorities, who transported him 100 miles away to an Ice processing center in Folkston, Georgia

So he was able to travel from West Virginia to Georgia but not to Canada to leave the country to meet the requirements of his visa?

So this was happening before Trump and the current hysteria? The icing on top is that he was an illegal alien.

People victimizing others while impersonating law enforcement has happened for as long as we've had law enforcement. But the number of instances of people impersonating ICE in order to rob or otherwise victimize illegals has increased dramatically since Trump got into office. In fact, it's been nearly a 700% increase. https://newrepublic.com/post/197476/ice-truth-data-increase-assaults-agents

PP, actually the article says that there's been an increase of 690 percent in the number of assaults against ICE and federal immigration enforcement--not an increase in the number of people impersonating ICE. The point of the article is that the number of assaults on ICE officers is not as high as the Trump administration claims. In the past six months there have only been 79 assaults, hardly a huge number given all the encounters that take place. Further, it's not clear what ICE defines as an "assault." For example they claim that the NYC comptroller Brad Lander "assaulted law enforcement" when he did not do so at all.

On Tuesday, Bill Melugin of Fox News reported on X that DHS told him assaults against ICE and federal immigration enforcement are now up 690 percent from last year. While ICE has previously stuck to publishing percentages, Melugin was given raw data, reporting 79 assaults against immigration enforcement agents between January 21 and June 30, up from 10 that took place in the same time last year.

Good lord. ANY assault in an ICE agent is one too many. That is about 13 assaults every month. That is horrible.

A lot of those assaults are people who think they are being abducted by randos because the ICE agents are not identified as federal agents. Maybe of they wore uniforms and badges and had warrants, things would be different.
NO that's not what it is. You just want to object to ICE deportation.

“Only Nixon could go to China, and maybe only Trump can finally get a polarized Congress to pass real immigration reform. Who knows whether he will try, but the opportunity is there, as public opinion shifts in response to the President’s border success and mass deportation efforts.”

“The details of any big beautiful immigration bill would take some negotiating. But if anybody has established the immigration credibility to try, it’s Mr. Trump.”

Well yes, at one point majority of illegal immigrants were from visa overstays. Not sure if that is still the case. Also, it is not clear that this is who ICE is deporting.

DHS just ended Catch and Release.
However, release on bond is not allowed. They are following federal law that says detention for the duration of immigration proceedings.

It's not clear if this means the millions Biden let in are required to report to detention.

June 2024, Biden releases 28000 people caught at the border into the country.
June 2025, Trump releases 0 people caught at the border into the country.

And there were only 6,000 caught to begin with, because people got the message that the border is closed with Trump.

Yes, we know. You and your friends tell us every day. Enjoy the migrant backlash now, but rest assured, like everything else Trump does, he will fail at this too. He has "sealed the border" (whatever that really means) and severely limited even legal immigration to this country, but he will never remove the 10+ million "illegals" he promised you. He and his people will make a mess of it, and his power will be reduced by the mid-terms so enjoy the cruel spectacle while it lasts--but you will never get exactly what you wished for. There will be a counter backlash soon enough.
