Class 2024 the acceptances to date.
Only 20ish students

Damn.

Almost half accepted to a T25???

For such a small class this is really impressive!!

Only 46% of this school getting into a T25 when UVA is an in-state option is not very impressive, the Big 3 all send similar percentages without that bump and without counseling out 30% of rising 8th graders.

Source? Post the links, pal.

What is it with all the BIM boosting on so many threads? Very bizarre, considering this is a small school that is losing, not gaining enrollment. It reeks of a desperate attempt to market themselves. The website seems desperate too. https://basisindependent.com/achievements/college-admissions/?src=google&med=cpc&cmp=14134088585&adgroupid=124696148839&keyword=basis%20mclean&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjw_e2wBhAEEiwAyFFFo_Ie-rfx2EpAmtuaSkSNBte7m3itqqrb08GG13SgwOuXqJl6kucxqBoCds0QAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Gaslighting and redirection by the anti-BIM bots.

Yeah, they have to rationalize the expense they’re paying Niche to try to create the illusion that they’re some kind of top school.

There’s a role for BASIS…if your kid is a STEM-focused student who is obsessed with test scores and nothing else, go for it. If the social component of high school and the fact that it’s a for-profit, owned by Chinese private equity that is itself, controlled by the Chinese government, go for it. For a lot of families, the pros outweigh the cons and that’s great.

For the rest of us, having a diverse class filled with science geeks, basketball stars, debaters, musicians, wanna be creators and future entrepreneurs is what high school is all about.

To each their own….but to pretend that a school that advertises on the radio to bolster enrollment is “elite” or “the best in the DMV” is nothing short of comic. As are the BIMbots that promote it.

Harvard: 1
Princeton: 2
MIT: 1
Columbia: 1
Penn: 1
Cornell: 1
Dartmouth: 1

There will be more to come I think. With the exception of the girl going to MIT, there isn't an athletic recruit in the bunch. Nice job Class of 2028!

Congrats to all those kids But this is why the NCS parent boosters who denigrate GDS and say NCS is a "better" school than GDS get to me. Maybe the Cathedral schools are great, but not in terms of college acceptances 2024. I think the old guard of DC doesn't like that what they see as a "super-liberal" school is having this kind of success.

In a class of 125 at GDS
These are committed students (Just posted so far and more to come)
6 Harvard
3 Princeton
2 Dartmouth
2 cornell
1 U Penn
1 Brown
1 Yale (unposted to IG)
1 Columbia

NCS parents are not anti GDS. In fact they are probably GDS's biggest supporters of the top schools.

That being said, GDS is not a Big 3 but yes they do have great college results this yea but yes I agree with others there are many hooks and a few very connected parents. In regards to NCS and STA which both have very small classes - 71 and 75ish respectively, percentage wise GDS is not sending more to Ivies.

Which is why many, if not most, people on DCUM combine NCS/STA as the Cathedral Schools when considering their stats.

Sure but almost all these kids are hooked.

Same is true at all the top privates - most of these kids getting in from these schools are hooked.

Well said, and to the BIM booster asking for proof that the Big3 schools outperform with regards to college placements - without even talking about High School experience and providing a well-rounded education - you are literally on a thread that has links to the instagram pages for the senior classes of all these schools, take a look and decide for yourself

MIT admits first then for sport - must have stats to get accepted

Eh, anyone getting into these schools has some kind of hook. There's no such thing as unhooked when acceptance rates are under 5 percent.

No. You can keep telling yourself that, but it's not the case unless you define "hooked" as broadly as possible to include "visited the campus" or "bought the t-shirt".

Our school has Harvard and Stanford kids this year with no hooks. They are just really smart kids (basically 1&2 in the class).

These are dime a dozen. The kids you named clearly had something that Harvard and Stanford saw as distinct.

That’s not a hook.

It’s not well said at all. You literally typed that comment on a Chinese made iPhone and you think a Chinese private equity firm that owns a U.S. based education company that runs Basis Independent schools (with many other school networks and Princeton Review, as well as having board representation at Harvard) has anything to do with the school’s education. Also, the PP above is in response to someone’s made up comments and stats that no, the IG accounts do not substantiate.

I’m just as tired of the made up comments by people who don’t actually know the school (decreasing enrollment? Clearly haven’t even been inside the school in on the last 2 years) as you are seeing any good news about the school (I’m sorry that they just keep doing so well).

Agree.

All this BIM bashing is tiresome.

That’s not a hook.

Of course it is. There are thousands of similarly situated applicants who get rejected. Whatever made the admitted ones stand out is their hook.
