Enough with the "stores for poors" line

Anonymous
It wasn't that funny the first time it was used. And it's remarkably rude. You're referring to a group of people as "poors". Is that kind?
Anonymous
I agree. Why should the poors have their own stores. No stores for you!

Look, when we use the line we are making fun of the person who said it seriously, not people who shop at places like Target and whatever, which includes many people on this board and many people using the line, I bet. It's not rude.

I completely agree

ITA. Lame and rude. Really, not cleaver at ALL.

What are the stores for poors? Is that a $1-type store?

Exactly.

It's undefined...it's just a quote from some fool who was ranting about clothing sizes. It's not insulting to anyone but the fool who originally used it. It's certainly not worth starting a rant thread over.

Except that not everyone has the benefit of having read that thread - so while you think you're using it as a knock on that OP, it comes off as a knock on low income people. Even repeating the "stores for poors" line just reinforces the message that OP was trying to make - different stores for THOSE people.

The effort to continue the "joke" makes you come off like you're insulting poor people. Really. I say this from the perspective of someone who used to have to shop at exactly the type of place you probably envision when you read the phrase.

00:00 (double O, double O?) I get your point and I am sorry if the phrase has been unpleasant for you. Since I think it will take a while to die down, let me suggest you envision those of us using it to be still shopping at those stores, because a lot of us are. No shame.

Yes. No shame. We are all human beings. Some of us are luckier than others. That is all.

ITA. Not cleaver at all. Let's meat in the middle and use the term less. *giggle*

Its a hilarious term! I love using STORE FOR POORS! Very clever and funny, you just have no sense of humor.

I suspect you've never been poor. Makes it easier to laugh at those who have less than you.

FYI - poor people don't shop at Target. That's a higher end "discount" retailer.

I am not thinking about using it as an insult but a funny line. Just because you do not find something funny does not mean someone else does not (excluding racial slurs and obvious derogatory statements). I am sorry if you have had hardships but using the term would never come out of my mouth to hurt someone, but I do think it is funny in how the OP used it (because it is a ridiculous thread) and the phrase is weird but thats where I find the humor in it.

I love target and walmart and all those places. So I am not saying people who shop there are poor. I love me a good discount/ bargain!

8:46, what you're clearly not getting is that it is derogatory. You just don't think so because you're not bothered by it.
