Well, since this is a VYS thread, I can say as a parent of multiple VYS players (some on the top travel teams, some not) that VYS also makes sure each player receives roughly equal playing time.

You are very lucky. This is not true for my kid's team.

What club?

VYS

What age group?

Guess.

My guess is one of the older groups. U14 or thereabouts.

McLean. 27 on the team

This is the same as Arlington, 20 kids rostered to ECNL, then 7 kids dual rostered to Green/ECNL. The dual roster players practice once a week with the ECNL team and get called up for the occasional scrimmage or game, but these players get game time on their Green teams.

That's interesting and makes sense to me. However there have been quite a few posts suggesting otherwise on this board - including obviously this thread. Do you mind me asking if you have direct knowledge of this? Not trying to cause offense, just trying to figure out who to believe. Given that this is DCUM soccer - perhaps I shoudln't believe anyone .

NP Here. I know a few people on McLean 06 Boys ECNL team and they tell me the roster is like 30+ kids. Basically last year, they had the regular roster but then Bethesda South 06 team "retired" so many of these kids went to McLean and McLean just added them to the roster. I am told that the top 18 or whatever, play the ECNL game that went and the rest play the EDP game that week, so everyone gets playing time. It's just that they are competing to play in the ECNL game each week.

What happens at the other age groups on McLean ECNL that have large rosters but no EDP teams. Are there boys/girls that practice with ECNL bit rarely play at all?

Current VYSers:
Coming back to VYS for another year or leaving?

Honestly I don’t know how anybody with talented kids would put up with this. It’s not like the encl involves that many games or much of a season in the first place.

helicopter parents are just fine with it

Uncertain - we’ll see how the spring season goes.

So Loudoun and Arlington are bringing their second level teams to our league?

Yes. For sure on boys side. I haven't heard about girls yet from Arlington

Most likely on our way out.
The last 3 years' experience did us in.

There were a lot VYS players in the ID sessions from other clubs. So I am expecting players leaving to better clubs if they are selected. Playing (Boys - MLS or ECNL and for the girls GA or ECNL) is the way to go! If you are a talent player, do you want to play for a better club (league, directors, coaches and players) or stay in Vienna?

don't think VYS has that many boys really on the level of MLS Next. ECNL maaaayybe if it's not a great team.

I don’t think either of the encl neighbors has great teams and VYS already sent some of its boys to other ecnls. They know how to teach younger kids how to play properly. I would have my kid play at VYS over any of the nearby U9-12 teams for clubs who have encl teams. Those clubs are not teaching much of anything to kids at those ages, which is readily apparent to anybody who sees their teams at those ages

GFR seems to be a destination even though they do not have ECNL teams
