Because Josh wasn't the only problem. Jim Bob and Michelle's handling of it was also a problem.

Some of the captions on this Daily Mail article about Josh & Anna's move has me cracking up:

Some of the people I encountered were hateful and self-righteous, others were normal. While too much emphasis was put on the girls and women covering themselves to avoid tempting the men, it wasn't as bad as some of the PPs are insisting.

There definitely are people who are stricter than the Duggars. But your "hardcore fundamentalist" upbringing probably wasn't just like the Duggar kids'. There's lots of information out there about the organization, ATI, whose philosophies the Duggars taught their kids and that organization's leader (Bill Gothard). Among Internet sources are folks who were raised in ATI, at least one of whom saw the Duggars pretty regularly at conferences. I don't accuse the Duggars of extreme sexism and victim-blaming based on their long dresses and curled hair but instead on all the information out there about ATI and how it has treated sexual abuse both in its literature and at the organization's headquarters.

The literature I've seen is for adults, not children. It's in the bible, which was written 2,000 years ago. I'm not sure why it's a shocking revelation for everyone.

My upbringing involved fundamentalist schooling. ATI doesn't have the market cornered on crazy propaganda, guidelines and textbooks. It's plentiful.

Poor Duggars, can't catch a break. Not allowed to refuse to allow a minor to speak to the police.

http://www.intouchweekly.com/posts/new-investigation-launched-against-duggar-family-911-called-60330

The Duggar family is under investigation again by the Arkansas Department of Human Services and police were called when the family refused to cooperate, In Touch magazine is reporting exclusively in its new issue that hits newsstands today.

A representative from the Washington County DHS called 911 on May 27 at around 11 a.m. asking for police assistance when DHS was not allowed to see the minor they were concerned about. In Touch, which broke the story of Josh Duggar’s sexual molestation scandal, has the full transcript of the emergency call in the new issue.

It's not the police, it's DHS. It's like if someone called regarding a minor in someone's home with a credible issue and then they showed up at your door asking to make sure the child was ok. They refused so they had to call police to assist. The law applies to them like it does to anyone else in that situation.

For a 5 bedroom furnished house close-in to DC? (Even in PG County)? It would easily be 4500 in Arlington.

If someone had it out for you, you best get your lawyer over there first.

Not a fan, but have read it elsewhere (earlier in the thread?): the girls would walk ahead of the boys while out and about and say, "Nike!" whenever a girl or woman who might stir up lustful thoughts approached so that the boys, weak as their religion obviously think they are, may avert their eyes and so not have lustful thoughts.

The law is in there side. They do not need to let DHS in their home or to speak to their child even if the police are called and are standing there with DHS. They need a warrant to come into the home unless they is a true reason to believe the child is in serious imminent danger.
