Overall, I have been happy with MCPS since moving here. You people just don't appreciate how good you have it.

Really?

They are paying out 1.3 Million to someone they could have terminated. But clearly, McKnight had some dirt on BOE because they "negotiated" this settlement.

Jane Doe is getting another $300K. (Granted, she DESERVES it and likely more.) But why didn't MCPS/BOE listen to complaints against Beidleman in the first place???

Having read McKnight’s contract, I didn’t see a way the BOE could have terminated her without paying the amount due to her under the severance provisions in the contract. I probably missed something, so how would it work if what you say is true and they could have terminated her without paying her severance?

Harris is allowing these cuts to happen. Everyone that’s currently in office should be voted out in November.

People should take a hard look at what’s happening here. Salaries and benefits are up for teachers and driving the budget crunch. The union is playing both sides - decrying staffing cuts while refusing to make any changes to the health care plans whose costs are a big part of what’s forcing those cuts. Makes me really second guess my plan to vote for the apple ballot candidates that the union picked - they will be in the mcea’s pocket and I’m worried will be motivated more about keeping their apple ballot designation than making the hard choices required to get the budget back on track.

+ 1. Montoya in particular will be beholden to MCEA. She would be nowhere without the union's support.

So what? there are lawyers on the board right now. Montoya has never managed a budget and her education experience is one year as a PTA president at an elementary school. Central office will run rings around her.

Exactly. I voted for Harris. Seeing these appalling cuts, she will not get my vote again. I like Harris but these cuts were heartless and lazy.

The county council decided the final budget amount after being told what was on the line. Blaming Harris is off target.

Blame city council because MCPS and the BOE couldnt come up with a reasonable budget to begin with? Nah. We'll be voting Harris out.

Here in Montgomery County, MD we have a county council. Where do you live?

Lynne and the rest of the board thought that Beidelman had learned his lesson and simply needed restorative justice

Blaming Harris is exactly on target. You can't argue experience when they fumbled the budget. Throw the bums out. Anyone can be taught budgeting. It's Harris's myopic unrealistic view of the school district that contributed to this mess.

That's rich given that the latest financials' show that SEIU gave each incumbent $6,000. MCEA didn't give any of the apple ballot candidates anywhere near that amount. If there is a candidate that is beholden to a union, it's Harris - beholden at least 6 thousand times.

the incumbents are in SEIU's pockets. That union threw a lot of money at the incumbents - at least $6,000 each. That is all public information. So, the budget cuts probably don't target SEIU members, but they certainly target MCEA members.

Look, I actually like Montoya but this is a losing argument. People HATE lawyers, in general. She's not even working as a lawyer, and her nonprofit bona fides would be much more compelling than the fact that she graduated from a program that has 300 students per year.

There will be six candidates on the ballot in November, and only one will have kids in MCPS.
