Can someone explain this to me? |
I'm less concerned with what you're wearing on your lapel than what's in your heart," Obama said Thursday while campaigning in Independence, Iowa.
"You show your patriotism by how you treat your fellow Americans, especially those who serve. And you show your patriotism by being true to your values and ideals. And that's what we have to lead with, our values and ideals," Obama said. |
Obama does wear a flag on his lapel. He just doesn't do it every day. He also doesn't do it simply as a hollow display of patriotism. I could easily site a number of times commentators on TV have criticized him about the pin while not wearing one themselves.
Its a strange world in which not wearing a pin is unpatriotic, but trashing the constitution and institutionalizing measures we grew up being taught only happened in the Soviet Union is patriotic. |
Oh for God's sake. What a ridiculous question. |
ok, my DH came home to me the other day saying he won't support Obama (I'm an Obama supporter) if he can't even salute the flag or wear his pin...but I figured there must be some logical explanation. |
Totally ridiculous question. I don't walk around wearing a flag pin, either. Why? Because I don't want to. |
why is ridiculous? I heard it through the grapevine and was looking for some insight on here. |
I don't know which news channels you're watching (Fox?), but every time I see Obama from a news clip, I see the flag pin on his lapel and I even pointed it out to my husband last week. I figure it has to do with making up for not putting his hand over his heart during one of the campaign events during which the Star Spangled Banner was being played. |
well they were talking about it on the radio, and I was just curious. jesus christ. |
It's ridiculous because it is so irrelevant. Does wearing (or not wearing) an American flag pin really give any insight or illuminate someone's character or position on significant issues in any way? No. Not at all. |
thank you to the NICE posters who answered my question. What's ridiculous to me is the MEAN posters who have to give other posters crap for asking a simple question. Totally unnecessary attitude. |
Things like this make me a little frightened that we moved here from NYC... ![]() |
I did not insinuate anything about his character...I was just frickin CURIOUS!!!!!!!!!! I support Obama...I was just wondering why. Man people are so frickin touchy on this board. |
If I heard people talking about something like that on the radio, my first thought would not be, "I wonder what his explanation is," but, "I wonder why such a thing is remotely significant in the grand scheme of things." Even if he did refuse to wear a lapel pin (which, as has been stated, he doesn't; his most recent commercials clearly feature him wearing one), so what? Maybe he doesn't like pins. |
I hear you NY...New Yorkers are stereotyped to have the attitude problems...but apparently so does DC. |
