So...my child was an honor roll student in her first semester of middle school last year. The school sent us the bumper sticker for our car, but we never put it on. I feel like if I do, I'm bragging and making people whose kids aren't on the honor roll feel bad. DD says she doesn't care and thinks it's silly, but I wonder if maybe she secretly feels like I am not taking pride in her.
Anyway, just wondering what the motivation is for those who do put the stickers on their cars... |
| I never put stickers on my car. They are ugly, tacky, whatever, no matter what they say. |
| Same here. Except magnetic soccer balls. |
| Even worse are the stickers that identify your family. Now everyone knows you have three daughters, one son, and a dog. |
| I thought it was a school's way of having you recognize your child and I don't think people really pay much attention or think much about it or take issue with it. Quite honestly, I really don't think any child not on the honor roll is going to burst into tears at the sight of an honor roll bumper-stickered car. But I can see the point of not wanting your car festooned with the thing. |
| I think they are especially stupid. But not as stupid as the stick figures of the whole family. What happens when the dog dies? Or DH leaves the family? Do you scratch him off the windshield? |
| I would probably put this on my car if my kid was on the honor roll - not to upset others - but to show my kid that I am proud of him. I care more about celebrating my kids' accomplishments than I worry about being tacky. |
me too! my kids are too young to get them but I would in a heartbeat. A better question is why the Baby on Board stickers-why?? |
| My bumper would fall off with out it! |

NP here. WOW. If you feel this emotional about a stupid sticker, I bet your neighbor having a better car/house/couch/you name it than you sends you over the EDGE. Hard! WTF do you care what anyone has on their car? Or anywhere else for that metter? Are you that insecure? WOW. You need to reconcile your issues about insecurity, PP. Fast, for your DC's sake. I would bet you deflect onto your DC's constantly. Don't think they are not feeling it, really. Just a thought. GL. |
This. I remember when I made the honor roll for the first time. My dad made a huge deal about putting that sticker on his bumper. |
| Tape it to the inside of the rear window. Your kid will forget about it in a few weeks, and your car won't depreciate. |

| With all the dumbing down these days, just showing up to school earns you an honor roll sticker. |

I think it's a nice way for the parents to show pride in the child and for the child to know that their academic accomplishments are important and noticed. I would put it on my car window b/c I don't like sticky things on my car's paint.
I think those bumper stickers are fine and they show a bit of school pride/community as well. I see plenty of soccer league magnets. Wish I saw twice as many honor roll stickers. |
