s/o - trendy drinks & drinks bartenders like to mix up?

Anonymous
This is a spin-off from the other drinks thread, which is sort of degenerating into what's cool and what's "girly" to drink.

I'm bored of the same old things that I always order when I'm out (gin and tonic, mojito). We almost exclusively drink wine at home, so when I'm out I like to have cocktails.
What interesting and/or new drinks should I try?

Also, the other thread had a couple of posts from former bartenders and apparently bartenders have preferences about what you order. (?) What do bartenders like to mix up?

Who gives a crap what bartenders "like" to mix? Its their job! Ha- thats just absurd to ask. Do you really care if the bar tender likes the drink you order? And if they dont, then they should go find another job.

as a former bartender I can tell you this, If you are an ass, I will make you the worst drink and you will have no idea. You will be paying me $10 for 99.9% juice and ice. If you are well behaved you wil get great drinks and I will make you some great stuff.

If you come up to the bar and say can you make me something fruity or something strong...your a pain in the ass and will get something that a kid can legally drink.

We made our money off the regulars not people who wander in once every so often. Don't lean over the bar holding out your money, we see you and we are ignoring you.

What does this even mean? What is well-behaved in a bar? I'm polite to everyone, bartenders included of course. But I have been one to go up to a crowded bar (from my seat at a table), with money in my hand. It's the only way I thought a bartender would know I wanted a drink. I had no clue it was offensive. ?

Bartenders don't like to make complicated drinks because it takes too long especially if one has to use a mortar & pestle.

And yes they see you and are ignoring you because they are waiting on me, the one that keeps the tips flowing and is there more often than you with your fruity concotion you have sent back twice and left no tip for.

Its not offensive, its what everyone does in a crowded bar. Whats up with all the bartenders who think they are so cool and all that. YOU WORKED AS A BARTENDER! Get an education and a life! I dont care if you *think* you made a ton of money. You did not and were dealing with trash on a daily basis. So you get trashy behavior. And no you dont deserve tips with a rude attitude and crap tasting drinks. Thanks for just proving why I rarely tip bartenders. You are scummy nasty people!

HMM let's see, I graduated with zero debt, you probably are still paying off your loans or had to go to daddy to get $$$, or did you work your way through school on your back turning tricks?

and never had a drink come back because someone didn't like it, even the ones that were made with the dirty ice.

Ok sure I will play: no debt, no student loans, own a house, no comsumer debt and have $150k in my bank account in cash. Still wanna go at it? Great you make a good drink, I am proud of your accomplishment!

I tended bar at several points in my life as a way to make some extra cash, no shame in that!

1) PP is right, never ask a bar tender to make your drink 'strong,' it implies you think they don't pour properly

2) I never minded a customer asking if I had a special drink of the night or a signature drink I was working on, I loved to experiment on my customers

3) In terms of easily enjoyed high balls, the easiest drink in the book is a regular or flavored vodka with soda/tonic. A good bar tender can make these all night without batting an eye. Whiskey ginger is also easy and quite tasty.

So if I don't come into the bar regularly, you basically don't even want my money? Okay.

We have to come to the bar with our money because you are standing at the corner flirting with the girl that you've been pouring strong all night in a pathetic attempt to get her drunk enough to go home with you or at least blow you in the back storeroom.

When I am paying the bartenders salary, stipend, whatever...they can make me whatever the hell I want to drink! Enough said!
