Are you letting your teens hang at friends houses, inside?

Anonymous
My 13-year old and 15-year old only hang out with their friends outdoors. We are in North Carolina, so the weather is a bit better.

My 19-year old is in college in a dorm, so of course sees people indoors but is pretty careful.

One of my teens also works at wegmans and worked unmasked until it became mandatory (which I think was June??). Considering he interacts with mobs and mobs of people daily and really ramped up his hours March-June when people were frantically buying rice and potatoes for the apocalypse it would be pretty silly to not allow our kids to see their friends.

So you are not in the DMV?

So your teen hasn’t seen any friend at all, in person, for nearly a year?

No.

Do you have them chained up? Seems pretty cruel. Outdoors with masks is fine!

Um, I think I'll get my advice from Dr. Fauci, not a random internet stranger on DCUM.

Hasn’t Dr. Fauci said for months that we should be looking for ways to open school?

He did NOT say life can go back to normal. Yes, he wants kids in school...in masks.,..socially distanced. That is not life as normal.

AND if the community spread is low enough. Which it is not, in most areas right now, if you look at the new cdc standards.

Yeah. This makes me sad. We've been outside, sometimes with masks all along.

People like you are the reason why we’re in this mess.

Yep. I have 18 year old twins, HS seniors. I tell them to wear a mask when they are out at all times. They had small groups of friends over during the summer, mostly outside. My DS has a friend who comes over to play video games. He drives and goes on dates and friends have "kick backs". But, when he's out, I don't know that he is being careful at all times. My DD plays travel club sports and is on the road quite a bit with her team. At some of the tournaments, some teams wear masks during game play like hers, but others don't. No spectators but still a risk. They will be away at college in less than a year. I will continue to encourage masks and social distancing when out but in the end you cannot control young people.

You must have missed the earlier part of this thread where posters were recommending a woman call the mother of children’s friends to tell on them. 🙄 Parents of 11 year olds love to give advice to actual parents of young adults. I agree with you. Encourage masking but you don’t control their behavior at 18, and if you’re still trying, you are communicating that you don’t trust them to do right based on the nearly two decades of parenting you put in!
