How widespread is the boycott against Goya Foods?

You'd be surprised. I leave generous tips if the service is decent. (It usually is.) I have a couple of Dem friends that I go to lunch with from time to time. (I go with them separately, they do not know each other.) Both are in similar financial circumstances as I am. Both stick to 15%. One of them even has a little card that helps her figure out the 15%. I go for at least 20% --never less.

+1. I've noticed the same thing. In my view, it's because most of my D friends are "Karens" who expect everything to be just so in their little world, and like to control everything, including how much income other people get. My R friends are much more go-with-the-flow. "Hey she worked hard tonight, let's help her out."

Totally agree.

But would you leave a tip for the illegal immigrant working at those restaurants. That was the issue.

A PP stated that half the little ID town was inhabited by Hispanics. I'm betting that many are not here legally and work in restaurants and farms. So, those Trumpsters will happily be served by those people, but still want them to go back to where they came from. Would they leave tips knowing that some of the money was going into the pockets of illegal immigrants? Or would they not leave tips because they don't want to encourage illegal immigrants to come here? What a conundrum.

Oh boy. I'm the PP who spoke about the small Idaho town where my family lives. I clearly stated in that post that Hispanic families have lived there for generations - these aren't illegal immigrants. Their kids have gone to school with kids in my extended family for at least a couple of generations.

As for whether or not to tip illegal immigrants - don't be ridiculous. The issue of illegal immigration is, for most people, on the macro level. Of course we're going to tip our servers, regardless. I think you're making this far more complicated than it needs to be because you simply like to argue. Oh, and you seem to be very much in favor of illegal immigration.

You realize that their grandfathers, great grandfathers, mothers could have come here illegally, right?

I'm not "in favor" of illegal immigrants. I'm asking whether people who want to "send them all back" are ok with having their foods prepared by the very people who they want to send back, and tip them.

You look at illegal immigrants at a "macro" level, but what if you find out that someone you know came here illegally? Or their grandfather did? All of a sudden, it's not so "macro" anymore. I look at them as human beings, and I realize that they are here because someone is giving them a job, someone like who works for Trump and those R farmers.

I'm betting that at some point or another, some white person in ID will say to your Hispanic "friends", "Go back to your own country.. This is why Trump won". It seems to happen more and more regularly these days.

+2. So sick of boycotts and cancel culture I automatically do the opposite now. It’s absolutely disgusting what this country has become.

Did you feel the same when Trump told his followers to boycott Harley Davidson?

Because you assume Trump voters don’t eat ethnic foods? Wow, that’s some bubble you’ve insulated yourself in.

Many Trumpsters in middle America think Taco Bell is "real ethnic food".

No, I don't think most middle America Trumpsters have ever bought Goya foods.

I am continuously amazed at how clueless people here are about the world outside of the blue bubbles. You do realize that their are tons of Latinos in red states.

Many are illegal immigrants who work on farms; some probably work in restaurants, cleaning the table for you, cooking your food. From what I understand, Trump and Trumpsters want them to leave. I wonder if Trumpsters leave tips, or write on the checks "go back to you where you came from".

You are projecting your own ugly thoughts into other people’s heads. People who live in red states aren’t cartoon characters.

You also have a romanticized view of Latinos in the US (typical of UMC white liberals). For example, in Florida, most Latinos are middle class (not just the Cubans) and most of them don’t like illegal immigration anymore than anglos.

+ 1 million
This is what Dems refuse to accept. Immigrants who came here *legally* aren't interested in helping other immigrants come *illegally*. Seems to always be the white, woke crowd insisting we need to open our country to anyone and everyone, at any time and for any reason. Nope.

Literally no one is happy about illegal immigration, except for rich and UMC whites and the illegal immigrants who provide their cheap labor. Ironically, their presence contributes to unemployment among poorer Black Americans who have to compete with them for jobs. Google the Chicago bakery that hired several hundred, mostly Black, workers after getting busted by ICE.

Democrats got Trump elected mainly due to their doubling down on the wrong side of illegal immigration due to the tendency of their party leadership and media outlets to lump all Latinos together and assume that they would be grateful to them. The woke crowd still commonly assumes that all Latinos were deeply offended by Trump’s comments about Mexicans, as if all Latinos are Mexican. This is especially problematic in Florida, which has a huge Latino population that is mostly not Mexican.

Well said.

Please explain why R farmers and Trump hotels continue to use illegal immigrant labor.

I'm the first PP who responded to the tip question. Of course, I'd leave the same tip. GOP does not hate illegal immigrants, we just think they should come legally and that we cannot continue to have the influx we do without some control. You are very misguided if you think otherwise.
And, yes, the GOP and the Dems benefit from the cheap labor. That doesn't make it right.

I bought ten cases of various products this morning and donated then to a food bank in Arlington. The volunteer
who helped me unload them said that they had been getting Goya products all morning.

I’m a lefty but the boycott is just dumb.

Stores often donate directly to AFAC. They’re dumping their Goya inventory so it doesn’t sit on the shelves.

No, dear. Goya inventory is still selling as well (if not better) than ever. No one is "dumping" it.

That's what I stated.. read the bolded. Trump, however, did say "they are not sending over their best.. they are sending over rapists and murderers". Do you wonder if some of those illegal immigrants who are preparing your food are the ones Trump is talking about?

If you frequent establishments that hire illegal immigrant are you not encouraging illegal immigrants to come here? After all, for the most part, the only reason they come here is because someone is willing to hire them, people like Trump and the managers/owners of the restaurants and the farms.

I'm willing to bet that Goya also hires some illegal immigrants.

You are absolutely delusional if you think Democrats don't hire illegal immigrants too. Get real.

Why in the world would a store do that?

They wouldn't. The PP is trying desperately to spin a narrative that stores are getting rid of their Goya merchandise - you know, to "own" Trump. The PP is a fool.

You think the people who chant “send them back” are going to start buying tons of beans and Mexican foods now?

DP. Are you able to hold different ideas in your head simultaneously? That people can love ethnic foods and the cultures from which they come, yet not support ILLEGAL immigration into this country? Have a little think on that and see what you come up with.

They would put their own eyes out if it meant “owning the libs”.

I consider voting for Biden under any circumstances ("Biden could be dead and I'd still vote for him!") purely an exercise in "owning the Trump voters." You know all about that.

Yep. Beans have entered the mainstream of American cuisine.

I'm thinking more people in certain areas will buy Bush's baked beans than Goya beans. It would be interesting to see where Goya products sell the best. I'm thinking it's mostly in areas with a high Hispanic population. If you go to Lincoln, NE for example, would you see a lot of Goya products there?

Even in the liberal areas I've lived in, grocery stores that are in areas with low Hispanic population generally don't carry a lot of Goya products. Stores cater to the demographics of the population in that area. That's why our local Costo sell a lot of Asian foods, but other Costcos do not.

You do realize that you don't have to be Hispanic to eat Hispanic foods - right?? JFC.

This is a non-thing among Latinos.

We have more pressing things to think about that some stupid boycott led by white "progressive" anglos --- the same guys who didn't give a damn while Obama/ Biden deported 4 million immigrants largely Hispanic and Asian.

Goya will remain a top brand for decades.
