Not having a second / vacation home makes me feel poor & depressed. Anyone else?

Oh no, more than this, more than you can imagine.

Seriously? My FIL has two and my mom has one. They’re not that expensive depending on the location.

I am the only one in my immediate family that does not own a vacation home. Much of my extended family does too. I have no idea how. I feel poor too - even though we aren’t.

It’s a joke, right?

You have bigger problems if you’re depressed because you don’t have a second home.

With that attitude you’ll never find happiness and contentment.

I know a lot of middle class and even lower middle class people who have "second homes." The vernacular changes by the location so they may have a "camp" or something like that but it is the same concept. If you're imagining that all of the second homes and vacation homes are mansions then I bet you would be surprised if you actually saw them.

We have a second home and while it is actually pretty modest these days it looks pretty awesome. When we bought it, the place looked like a shack and we were worried a strong wind would pitch it over. We picked it up for a song 20 years ago and then put a lot of sweat equity into it. Now people look at it and whistle. They should have seen it 20 years ago. If you really want a second home it is possible. Just reset your expectations and be creative.

I must be really poor because I don't know anyone with a second home to ask for an invite lol

Jokes aside OP, even if I could afford a second home (not that I own a first), I wouldn't want too. I'm not the kind of person who likes going to the same location over and over again. I can see the appeal of being able to escape to a place that's a home and not a hotel, but personally it's not worth the money for me.
