I'm not complaining. I love quarantine. I'm saving a ton of money, spending oodles of time with my kids, and still collecting a full salary while working from home (but with less work to do honestly).

Still, I see the writing on the wall. It's ending. By September we will be reopen, short many of our grandparents.

You can't be a real person. Who the heck talks about other people dying like that?

Because I have a clear-eyed view of risk and death? Is that so unusual? My grandmother died this weekend. Not sure, as of today, whether it was covid19 related, but I can still clearly see what our governments plan to do: they won't be insisting on lockdown until we find a vaccine, instead, they will allow for everyone to get exposed, but slowly. I can understand why, it's not practical to fully lock down for a couple years, even if I, personally, am fine in lockdown.

Those are the only two choices, lockdown until vaccine or allow for slow virus exposure, and it's pretty obvious which one we are doing.

Of course there is a middle way. That is what the rest of the world is doing, and what we should be doing. You can't have "slow virus exposure" when every infected person infects 3-5 other people.

Virginia will never even get to stage 2. We will not fully reopen before there's a vaccine or adequate treatment.

You don't seem very familiar with what the rest of the world is doing. German school children are returning to classrooms.

See Germany's curves - see how they've gone most of the way back down? https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/germany/

Germany had 54 deaths today out of a population of 83 million. Georgia had 43 deaths today out of a population of 10 million. See the difference?

And yet they're back in schools because they flattened their curve, not because they have a vaccine or superior treatment.

Agreed. The rest of the world is basically moving to the Swedish model. So will the US.

Actually, the rest of the world is moving to the Denmark model. So are most states in the US, although probably all a little earlier than they should, and a few much earlier than they should have.

No, they are back in school because Germany was able to control their epidemic with testing and a very strict lockdown. And only some students are back - those that are graduating - and they are wearing gloves, masks and practicing social distancing. Pictures here https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/11544323/glimpse-how-britains-schools-look-after-lockdown-germany-social-distance-classrooms/

I haven't seen any evidence that the US is this organized or that Americans can practice the self-control required to do this. I'd love to be proved wrong.

All restaurants, cinemas and hotels in Germany are still closed and everyone needs to wear a mask outside.

Spend a little time following conservative "pro-life" "thought leaders" on social media. They're all, "what's a little death, really? It only kills the elderly and fatties with comorbidities who don't deserve to live. I want a hair cut, dinner at Applebees and some of that sweet, sweet bowling."

The point of staying in lockdown was to buy our incompetent federal govt time to get testing, contact tracers, and PPE. They failed on all counts, left the states holding the bag. The states don’t have the capacity to do this job, or prevent people from other states coming in and out. So every state eventually is going to say F it and ease restrictions anyway.

You’re a d**k. Not because you want the beaches to open, but because you are unkind and lack empathy and compassion.

We have 6 weeks left in school. Maybe for juniors and seniors but no point for elementary.

They only want to dictate women’s choice. They don’t care about the babies post birth or anyone else.

Yep, that’s my thought too. I’m glad for easing restrictions but I’m not sure that we have enough PPE or tests, or the capacity to get them. But people also aren’t going to stand for widespread restrictions much longer.

Dave Matthews Band canceled its 2020 summer touring today. Pushed it to 2021.

Northam seems to think we’re good on PPE.

As long as you promise that you and everyone you live with won’t seek out medical help if you get sick. Thanks!
