Is Summer Residential Governor’s Schools a big deal?

I'm the poster who didn't get any emails. We had to email VDOE and inquire, but we finally got our missing email today. It was a yes, so I'm glad we followed up.

DD also never got the email. She reached out to her counselor who looked up a status report of some sort for the school. Apparently she has been accepted into the Performing Arts
Program. The counselor will try to chase down the issue with DD’s email notification tomorrow.

Unbelievable that VDOE continues to screw up notifications.

Definitely check with your school admin-they have a way to look students up in the system and see their status. Replies are due by Monday!

Given the delay, DD has committed to other summer activities that will conflict w the governor’s School a few days here and there. She would like to still attend but not sure how to handle the conflict. Wonder if the program will allow her to be away for a few days.

It can be tied to specific scholarships at public universities in some states.

They will not allow that. Says quite clearly on all of their printed materials.

For those admitted, what are you plans for moving in? Any tips and/or recommendations?

Which program and what campus?

DD is at the Humanities. She's a bit lukewarm on the experience. Actually lukewarm might be more positive than I'm hearing. Any updates on your DC? Good, bad? Please tell me it gets better after week 1.
