FCPS School Board candidates in Dranesville

Whether Karloutsos stays or goes, I’d rather have someone who knows the area better on the School Board. I doubt she’s spent much time in Herndon or even McLean south of 123.

Unfortunately some members of our current board want to hire a consultant to help them communicate with the community on boundaries.

Perhaps after several hundreds of thousands are spent, they will be able to admit that the policy has been revised several times.

Maybe they need to pay someone to work with Brabrand so that he will be able to say to parents "I wanted to put a One Fairfax lens on boundary policy and that's why it is being reviewed. "

The consultant would look at practices in other jurisdictions. Seems like staff had already done some of that. I doubt you have any basis to think the fees would run in the hundreds of thousands.

You won’t find a single candidate advocating to move kids out of under-enrolled Langley, at least until a new high school gets built.

It’s sad that the Republican-endorsed candidates resort to lies and fear-mongering, just like their leader, Trump. Voices of Fairfax is their main mouthpiece, and it’s just a front for the local GOP, started by a bunch of Great Falls residents aghast at the notion they might ever be rezoned to Herndon (to which a number of current Langley neighborhoods were assigned until the mid-90s).

No one should fall for their BS.

And you know that because...? The fact is FCPS knew Langley had open capacity , is in an isolated site for boundary changes, staff recommended changes by moving Mclean students to Langley on several CIP's, and FCSB privately consulted by Strauss in Jan 2019 would not give 7 votes to do a move.

The same FCSB that in 2019 effectively sealed the open capacity at Lee and Mount Vernon for perpetuity by adding onto West Potomac. Open capacity and boundary changes should not be so subjective. One Fairfax should remove subjectivity and politics from facility utilization issues.

Especially when there is bond money for capacity enhancements. Some DINO's who are Democrats actually care about taxes and equity. Base school Hutchison is title 1 and if you live in the attendance area are in this county and paying to NOT use Mount Vernon and Lee. Same for people whose kids are in the Chantilly Trailer Park. The operating budget money for extra trailers could be used at title 1 schools.

Know the area? I'd rather have a Karloutsos not adhering to long term political BS like our tax dollars building unneeded capacity in some other magisterial districts. No more private polling for votes on totally objective things like numbers of students and program and/or design capacity and locations of sites.

How'd FCPS end up with so many IB schools? Vote trades and some for minor one time items as documented in the book Supertest. Speaking of knowing the area- how many district and at large members couldn't find the dog park? How many can't find Hutchison Park? Answer is 12.
