What’s the best thing you’ve learned on DCUM?

Schools. Knew nothing about charters, lottery, private schools, etc. My kid would not be educated if it wasn’t for DCUM. Thanks!

Covert Narcissism. I’d never heard of it before but it describes my mother perfectly. I’m so happy I know what I’m dealing with now.

1. summer camps
2. coconut oil
3. pet related questions and
4. the fact that most pet owners (myself excluded) are totally nuts
5. that the college forum is a total waste of time, dominated with people who have opinions but very little actual information or knowledge.

anyone know how well it works for thick, long hair? i plan on cutting it to shoulder length soon but right now it's a bit past my bra band. very thick.

It's great. I have wavy, long, super thick hair that tends to frizz if I don't flat iron or get a blowout. The revlon dryer is a miracle. Gives me a salon-quality or better blowout in half the time of flat ironing.

That I’m not the only one that has seen MCPS’ precipitous decline - even though we all ‘moved here for the schools.’

Just a lot of really sound and effective parenting advice and support.

And the recent poster who said they give their kids sugar cereal from santa at Christmas. My kids will absolutely love this!!

HA! Coincidence I clicked on this tonight or I’m on here way too much. Really DCUM has been like a therapist only better. I do not try to change her in any way. I limit conversations and visits with me but not the kids. I realize that as long as they are not hurt, which they won’t be, they will be FINE and that she means well even though she’s wacky and can’t say no to them. So I basically removed myself a lot but thank her all of the time for helping out with them, like she’s doing me a huge favor. That way she feels needed and I’m out of the visit. DH handles all of her gift purchases and phone calls. Best DCUM advice ever.
