Because if I were a conspiracy theorist I would ask myself whether indeed the White House wanted precisely someone who was subject to "pressure" because of past secrets, and someone who would be exceptionally loyal to the White House knowing their career was getting a second, HUGE chance, when no other employer would have overlooked that background report, --- as the person working very closely with the President, privy to certain important documents and private conversations.

Porter had only a temporary security clearance, and yet handled all of the paper flow to the president, giving him access to our country's most sensitive information for over a year. The mere fact that he was hiding a background of domestic violence, made him vulnerable to blackmail, something that should have been grounds for dismissal, and yet Kelly made him his top deputy. The carelessness of this White House with our national security is deeply concerning.

The volume of Senior people in the WH without clearance/with temp clearance/with SIGNIFICANT problems on their clearance, should be enough to set national security-friendly Rs in a tizzy. But I haven't heard a peep, for months, while these clearance problems have been coming out.

Porter was a Mormon who spent two years on his missionary trip. He met Holderness (nee Paulson), who was also a Mormon, after he returned. She naturally spoke with bishops about her relationship, but it’s clear they wanted her to stick with her husband no matter how abusive he was. Divorce wasn’t an option.
