Why are the British so rude?

Neither arrogant nor confident.

They are ignorant.

We are talking percentages, of course.

So what percentage are you falling under, PP? You are a genius, I'm sure

To the Brit above: I'm not sure it's confidence, but I can't think of a good word for it. Hubris? The result of being raised in green-house conditions, coddled until mid- to late twenties by helicopter sanctimommies, and the never-ending barrage of participation trophies.

In rural areas especially, I've found people to be very kind and warm. And even more so in Ireland and Scotland, who I've found to be some of the nicest, kindest people (as a whole) that I've met.

Unfortunately, I can't make the same observations about many Americans.

Some of my Scottish relatives are incredibly snobbish where Americans are concerned, and they don't hesitate to say what they think of Americans. It's mostly the older ones, but the snobbery is still there with a few of the younger ones. Of course, they always say "not you, of course!"

We always spend our visits being vocally ashamed about Trump or whatever war we declared on somebody, which is true, but we feel like we have to make an extra effort when abroad. I think my 83-year-old mom complained about Trump to every single taxi driver and waiter we had on a recent trip, to the point even DD got sick of it.

This is the PP you're responding to. I also have Scottish relatives and that is not my experience at all.

+1

I find the Scottish very friendly towards Americans, the Irish too. Much more so than the English.

I don't think you understand social darwinism, unless your comment was intended as a compliment.

I understand social Darwinism quite well. I can't believe people still believe in that sh1t.

What sh1t?

Applying this type of sh1t to today's context: "The strong have always conquered the weak."

If social darwinism is working correctly than how did you figure out how to use a computer? I call BS.

You're the same fool that had no comeback, aren't you? Girl, you've been dissed and dismissed. Move it along

Wow, I hope you aren't as illiterate as you sound.

If I were a competitive person from Britain I would feel trapped in a euro country where they throw impediments in front of trying to achieve your dreams. I would feel like I was missing out by not being an American citizen .

Nailed it.

When you're a competitive man driving around in a mini and a hummer cuts you off ... Your dick shrinks 3 inches.

That's it.

an older British woman at Tysons butted in when I was paying and was astounded I got out a lot of coupons mailed to me and was like.... 'you have so many coupons! where did you get those?'. Then she stood there next to me and stared as I paid with my coupon and money the whole time as if I was doing something wrong.

I even don't know about the reason why British people are so rude. But I would like to know. lol

No one said that was the best way, just observed that it has always occurred.

Their heritage and legacy is based on colonialism. Robbing, enslaving and stealing from other countries. Not much substance there.

We were the first country to abolish slavery, never allowed slavery in the UK, and were instrumental in suppressing the slave trade.

Oops. Better check on those facts in British-occupied Africa.

And the West Indies.

And their abhorrent behavior in the subcontinent and their treatment of Indians is hardly a shining example of progressiveness.

I like the Brits. Many I've met have that dry sense of humor.

I can appreciate smart humor!

Anonymous wrote:I say this as someone with British blood, so it pains me to even say this. But lately I've noticed how incredibly rude and obnoxious many (not all) Brits are towards Americans. Lots of underhanded comments and snideness. I mean, what gives? I thought they were our major ally. I've lived in several foreign countries and never seen that level of condescending rudeness

Maybe they've always been rude but you've just gotten more sensitive with the passage of time.

And? Do you extrapolate from this that all British people are rude?

This thread is awful - I'm British and offended by it.
