I have traveled throughout the UK and don't feel Brits are overwhelmingly rude. Sure, in the cities maybe a bit more. But that's the case everywhere. In rural areas especially, I've found people to be very kind and warm. And even more so in Ireland and Scotland, who I've found to be some of the nicest, kindest people (as a whole) that I've met. Unfortunately, I can't make the same observations about many Americans.
Some of my Scottish relatives are incredibly snobbish where Americans are concerned, and they don't hesitate to say what they think of Americans. It's mostly the older ones, but the snobbery is still there with a few of the younger ones. Of course, they always say "not you, of course!" We always spend our visits being vocally ashamed about Trump or whatever war we declared on somebody, which is true, but we feel like we have to make an extra effort when abroad. I think my 83-year-old mom complained about Trump to every single taxi driver and waiter we had on a recent trip, to the point even DD got sick of it.
This is the PP you're responding to. I also have Scottish relatives and that is not my experience at all.
+1 I find the Scottish very friendly towards Americans, the Irish too. Much more so than the English.
