Why are the British so rude?

It seems after Trump it's happening more. I'm finding it less easy to be like "Oh, just the Brits, whatever". Lately it seems to have moved into downright unbridled hostility

Yes, I think that's it.

Last week, I was in an airport lounge and smiled hello at an English man in the elevator. You know, like normal polite people do. He gave me a nasty look and said, "What do you want?" Bizarre.

Could have just been him, but - I travel a lot, and I've noticed a lot of this lately (and I'm an overweight woman, so obviously American).

Yeah. Very bizarre. I know there are cultural differences but... it's hard to overlook something like that. And that is exactly the kind of thing I'm talking about, strangely hostile behavior

Cultural difference don't come into play as much in the airport, though. That's why I found it strange.

Yes, it is very strange. Was it an airport here or overseas? It's rude either way, just curious.

Trump hasn't even bothered to visit GB, our closest ally. Yeah, they're pretty miffed about it. We would be too, honestly.

A friend of mine who lived there (pre Trump) said they were the worst people she'd met in her life. She loved the Irish, Scottish, and Welsh- and she said the English were the most stuck up, smug jerks anyone could ever run into. She said there was a lot of passive aggressiveness and a sense of being better than anyone else

This is only the younger generation responding to Trump and the Republican Party, which is closer to facism than true Republicanism, which is understood in the UK to mean "liberal." and "anti monarchist" As a rule Brits are known as the "happy breed" and are anything but rude.

The rudeness has dated back a long long time

She must have been in London, which is the equivalent of New York, pushy, fast and often rude. New York does not represent the U.S. anymore than London represents the UK.

Depends on their social class. Aristocrats rudest ever and have such an air of superiority. It's not wonder why our forefathers fled.

It was it the US.

I don't think Brits mean to be rude, they just have bad teeth and so they look gruff and mean.

Except they don't want him there. So why would he visit? I don't think May has been here either.

I honestly think apart of it is what others have said. The British were THE most powerful country on the planet for hundreds of years. They still think of their ways as being superior in many ways. Then comes America, with it's brashness and lack of regard for all the "refined" British ways that they feel makes them so superior, and it's, in some ways, a slap in the face to their values. To top off the American rejection of them, then Americans quickly outpaced them to become the modern day superpower, with Britain kind of turned into our little brother. This goes against their fundamental values where THEY are supposed to be the ones looking down on us, not the other way around. Hence the annoyance and hostility from them that sometimes leaches out

When B O removed the Churchill bust it was the last straw.
