Please don't leave me hanging, wise Swami...

Swami hopes you like to drive and are ok being anxious, because unless you have a sibling, (you didn't indicate), you will be shut out everywhere next Thursday at 11pm. You will eventually get into Bridges and decline to stay at your current care situation.

Agree, this commute looks crazy.

Swami says that people will enroll and disenroll throughout the summer as they get into their choices 1-9 instead. Swami says this will be the year that IB parents choose Langley over Seaton or Garrison.

I am definitely noticing a decrease in Bloomingdale families going to Garrison. Back when DC6 lotteried for PK3, everyone listed Garrison above Langley and some had IB rights to both, but watching DC3's friends lottery this year has been different. Seaton and Cleveland are still popular but those schools have an advantage in being so close to the Shaw metro and G8 bus line, and to Bloomingdale itself. Garrison seems to be just a bit too far to the west and off the metro, so it's a heavy logistical price to pay for something not that different from Langley. At Cleveland, at least kids in the English classroom have the remote possibility of getting into the Spanish classroom through the internal lottery.

I think this is the first year it will be pretty tough to get into Seaton and Cleveland OOB as a non-sibling, maybe the first round seats will all go to IB kids. Probably to Langley's benefit.

So Swami wants to you if you agree with Swami's Swamiing?

I agree that parents will choose Langley over Garrison except the few for whom Garrison is more convenient. I do not agree that this is the year Langley will edge out Seaton in people's preferences, because of Seaton's location and it being just a year or two further down the gentrification path. However, there are some people already choosing Langley over Seaton, and more and more people will not get in to Seaton anyway. So I think it's going to be a great year for Langley as the new principal gets her footing.

Agreed that the Langley over Seaton phenomenon for Bloomingdalers is already happening for some. Our child was enrolled at Langley for PK3 and PK4, we were offered Seaton and Cleveland waitlist spots each year (we did lottery each time, mostly for option of language immersion charters) and turned Seaton and Cleveland down each year. And this year, we are happy enough that we didn't even lottery for next year (K) period, which is a nice feeling this time of year! Not saying we won't have to do some thinking and potentially lotterying to do when middle school gets closer.

Swami says you will be very very very frustrated on Friday, getting into Burroughs, even though you are fine with it and were prepared for it. Your master pull will be good though, with WL numbers in mid-teens to 40s. You will get off of Bridges after the initial enrollment deadline passes. You will get into Lee the second week of school. The others will creep up to top 15 but stall.

Swami is going to assume you are IB for Langley, Walker Jones or Noyes. The universe will reward you for a reach list with a few safeties. It won't SWS level reward you, but you will end up at DCB in the fall.

Swami says someone has to get into CMI, and that someone is you. You are elated, quickly post on Facebook, and get cold shouldered by your shut-out friends.

Swami says you love a good commuting challenge, and it's good. You will get into Sela on first pull, and reorder your list rapidly because you aren't convinced that you prefer Bridges more than ITS after all, even if it is convenient. You will figure out the secret backroads to ITS after you get in, and find another family to share carpooling with.
