From my law school mentor: trials are not about truth, but about evidence. That mantra always makes me better prepared to ensure i'm able to get in admissible evidence so that can tell the story.

From my therapist: you have no obligation to maintain a relationship with your mother who was toxic and abusive to you. That was sooo freeing and the space I gave myself to heal without her around actually enabled me to later have a relationship with her (albeit, superficial but that's the best way for us.)

From my dad when I was dating someone I really shouldn't have while in college:

Couples who have been happily married for around 50 years noted in a survey that they have a ratio of at least 8 to 1 of positive to negative interactions with their partners. Some people believe 2 to 1 is a good ratio, but many of the happiest marriages are closer to 30 or 40 to 1 (positive to negative).

This is absolutely a stereotype. My ex-husband is Jewish. He is a great ex-husband, especially after I threatened a restraining order.
