Maybe it's just your wording, but the way it's written sounds like all the other bilingual charters have to do is amend their own charters to "include DCI" and they're in. But in fact don't the current founding and feeder schools have to approve new schools joining? There are considerations about class size, attrition, new students, and how the school will be run that need to be looked at as new schools are added.

From what I've heard, the current schools (LAMB, Stokes, Yu Ying, Mundo Verde, and now DC Bilingual) will be choosing who else comes in. It's not just a free for all .

You are exactly right. No one else gets in without the unanimous consent of the member schools. Sela and any new immersion schools will have to prove themselves in order to be considered, along with capacity, attrition, etc. No one gets in after 9th grade.

First, please change the name. You are embarrassing yourselves.

That is on our agenda when we meet for the first time. There has been a lot of feedback about the name.

Noooo. Not housed inside the same school. Housed in different spaces on WR, and eventually probably near, but outside WR. And, as new language schools are develop, probably will include more language charters - and/or traditional public school language programs. Of course, first DCI needs to get off the ground. And there is no telling WR will be ready by 2015, so DCI could be in swing space(s) for years to come.

Yes. housed in the SAME school. DCI is one collaborative effort. Kids will be mixed for subjects taught in english and segregated by language for others. there is only one building for DCI on WR's campus. Feeders keep their rising 6th graders next year, One year in swing space for 6th and 7th graders and then they move into WR with grades 6, 7, and 8. Meaning this year's 5th, 4th and 3rd graders at feeders.

What? They are the SAME school, though the kids will retain enrollment at their existing schools. The kids will all be taking classes together.

To an outside observer, Sela looks like a good fit. Apparently they've worked with Yu Ying similarly to the way Mundo Verde did before their opening, even down to charter application assistance. Sela is hosting a discussion of immersion education for the public, and representatives from all the feeder schools will also be participating. There appears to be a working relationship. Who knows, since Sela has room in their big new facility, maybe they can offer the DCI some swing space? That would certainly make them an attractive partner with something to bring to the table.

I think they meant in the same physical space, which is true. They will not all be in the same physical space.

Not for the swing space year but after that they will all be in the same school.

Not true, they all be at Walter Reed, but not the same building, and LAMB at least is telling people that there will be "swing space YEARS" not just one.

It's true that Sela has worked closely with YY on design and starting their new school. But as a parent at a current feeder school I definitely hope the criteria that is weighed is much more complex than design of the school. What language is feeding should be a major onside ration, and while I have no objection to Hebrew at DCI, it would not at all be a priority language for inclusion in my book. I'd want to see more French, an Arabic school, even Amharic way before Hebrew. It's about the languages usage outside of school settings in both the DC population and in world populations and business.

Re: the feeder schools keeping separate space at DCI, what is the source for that info?? Everything I've heard has DCI as one middle school and one high school. Not separate programs or separate space. What is the source that says there will be separation?

So it's LAMB that's saying this? Is anyone at the other 4 feeders hearing this?
