Synagogue attack near Detroit

Of course it horrifies me. Just like when our military DID slaughter 160 Iranian children. Just like when Israel slaughtered how many thousands of Palestinian children. It's all horrific. What it is not is surprising. And what I find appalling is the selective outrage as though some lives are worth more than others, and the ridiculous expectation that we can continue killing people and taking what we want and that no one is ever going to fight back.

He actually shot himself.

Nope. He ran over a security guard who took him out. A guy with a rifle and explosives in his truck doesn’t make explosives in a week due to revenge. This guy was on the FBI list since 2019, he never had good intentions. Again, why was he let into the country? Thanks lax immigration for that. What happened to his American wife?

And gasoline. Fireworks and gasoline. And it seems he sat there for two hours before getting to the point of doing it.

I know many don’t want to hear it, but it is likely this guy, having recently lost loved ones in a conflict that is very, very personal to people from that region, was suffering from a mental health crisis that day that brought him to that point.

Nothing justifies the action he ended up taking, of course. But in trying to understand his motivation, the foregoing seems to fit the details I’ve seen in the news about this incident.

This entire explanation is terrorist sympathizing.

Why haven't the Jewish survivors of Oct 7 done this to a mosque on their own? Families that lost their children - why? Can anyone tell me why their grief ("very personal to the people from the region") didn't cross that line? Why are they making movies instead? Talking about it instead? Why didn't they turn to violence?

I truly care more about American lives now. Is that horrible? I am an American. And a Democrat.
Yes, all lives count - but we can't care more about children in the ME than we do about our own. We just can't anymore. Our country is not okay. Let's focus on our problems here.

+1

The (insane) quiet part is that they think there’s nothing wrong with their belief that the right to defend oneself is a right that we control, and that we are entitled to deprive others from exercising.

As an American, yes. I don't want ANY kids to die. But in a crowded room on fire with limited time, I have to focus on Americans first. Everyone else comes next. I don't know what this is even a debate if you are an American?

P.S. I've never voted for a republican for president (once did for a state office)....so please don't label me as MAGA.

Are you insane?

Are you literally trying to argue that there was no response by Jewish people to 10/7? Does Gaza ding a bell?

Do you care more about American lives or are they worth more? It’s pretty awful so think one child is worth more, due to their nationality.

I don't know what this thread is about at this point. You can oppose the war and the civilian casualties that ensue and also be against domestic terrorism. I'm not sure how some of you wound up this way.

And what do you think Jewish people would have done if the gov’t didn’t satisfy their desires with 60+ slaughtered Palestinians for every person slaughtered on 10/7?

Yes. Why is that bad to say? As Democrats, we should be loyal to ALL of our people HERE. And those who come legally through legal processes to become citizens. As a 2nd-gen American who isn't white, I don't think this is actually controversial.

And we can say that we are horrified by the attempt on American children's lives. How are you not horrified? American dollars and efforts should always go to "caring" more about American lives. That's just life. I don't live in some pretend la-la land.

Everyone has to make choices. My tax dollars should go to Americans. and to protect American interests. Not the interests of random countries. or their people if it's not in OUR interest. My allegiance is to our country. And our people.

Exactly. You had to go to a hypothetical bc there is no absolute way this retaliation would happen.

This dude's terrorist thug bros were killed in the last few days. Why didn't he wait to see what a response could be? This war is playing out daily in real time? It's not over.

So, the natural next question: why was he so impatient? What is it about the terrorist mindset that led him here? How did he learn this? Why was it culturally excused or appropriate? Even by you? Here. Now. And by others on the left. Ask those hard questions of yourself. We all should.

This type of excusal/sympathizing is a virus affecting democratic voters. It is exactly why we lost the presidential election and exactly why it will lead to long-term problems for the party. It's why our national Dem leaders know we need to rein this in. I fear it's too late.

Which one is it? Are Americans worth more or do you care more about Americans? Again, that isn’t very nice. Are all American lives equal to you, regardless or color or religion, or is it only certain Americans?

I had to go to a hypothetical to help you understand that the gov’t response should have been plenty to soothe their desire for retribution. But since you pushed, what about the psychos who blocked aid trucks, poisoned essential food supplies, murdered Palestinians in the West Bank, etc.?

Why the interrogation? You can believe what you believe.

I care about Americans more AS AN AMERICAN. All Americans are equal to me.

In terms of the value of human life, I am not God and don't decide a human beings "worth". All people are equal in my eyes (but human equality doesn't mean you get access to America or its assets). The American govt shouldn't care more about non-Americans than it does about its own citizens. It's not our country's role to save everyone, nor is it our role to rescue them. Life's tough.
