This is an issue best left to the citizens of Greenland based on an informed campaign.

Greenlanders are not happy with Denmark.

Actually Greenlanders are very happy with Denmark and have no interest in becoming an affiliate of the US. Facts matter.

If facts matter, then your post should be ignored. Try researching a bit before making incorrect assertions as if they are fact.

I am the person you are responding to. I based my post on polls from over the last year and a half on the ground in Greenland that have been reported widely, as well as recent articles over the last several months stating the same. I have NEVER seen a poll or article that suggests otherwise. If you have some legitimate sourcing supporting your assertion, you are encouraged to share it.

+1

Just do some research on the Danish leaders of the past few decades and then compare them to the bumbling fools we've had in The White House since 2017 and it's easy to see why they'd prefer to stick with Denmark.

If Greenland wants to join the United States they can hold a referendum. We still believe in government of by and for the people right?

And the US has to hold a referendum also.

We believe in it but unfortunately our Federal Government is currently by and for the wealthy mega-donors of our corrupt major political parties. Anyone who doesn't understand this yet, needs to catch up and catch up fast.

But taking Greenland by force would be the end of NATO. The US will lose its military bases in Europe. 100,000 US troops will go home. A very successful trans-Atlantic alliance will be gone.

Europe, the UK, Canada, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand will form a separate alliance, isolating the US. And naturally, a US seizure of Greenland will lead to the end of the US dollar as the reserve currency. No one will be buying the $39 trillion of debt the US currently has outstanding. Interest rates will soar in the US. Unemployment will skyrocket. And the US will stand alone in its modern great depression.

And for what? Trump seems determined to change the US from the only global superpower in the world to being nothing more than a regional bully - like Russia or Iran. Taking Greenland makes no strategic sense whatsoever. The costs to the US are enormous. And there's no coming back from it. If the US makes that move, the entire security and trade structure that has served the US very well for 80 years is gone.

I am sometimes surprised by the breathtaking stupidity of Republicans. But taking Greenland goes even further than that. There really needs to be a thorough investigation into Trump's ties to Russia. A move like taking Greenland destroys American national security. And only Russia and China benefit from that.

This is my view, too. I am so terrified.

No one in my small family has cognizable claims to citizenship in another country. We have nowhere to go if this happens, and the US is effectively destroyed from the inside out. This would be a disaster for hundreds of millions of people, who lack liquid 6 or 7 figure assets to purchase property in an allied nation or culture.

I think I misunderstood Trumpism in Trump 1. I did not fully accept that he wanted to make moves inimical to the country itself, not just to Democrats or blue states. He is a vassal to the countries that have paid his debts and hold his most serious sexual and financial secrets. I am terrified that he will succeed, because no politicians are effectively opposing, and I do not believe the military will either.

He has made this clear for quite some time, certainly more than 8 years. This is why people keep referring to the "Leopards Eating Faces" party.

Exactly. How could people not understand this? They thought the end justified the means, but nobody considered what the "end" really was.

GOP/MAGA is complicit. They could have stopped him yesterday, or today, but have chosen not to.

We are run by a minority oligarchy of powerful, sociopathic men. And, little men who are cowards who will do anything to get a crumb.

You’re responding to me and I don’t really agree; it seemed in 2015 that he’d be standard-issue corrupt, plus racist, plus xenophobic. Meaning, susceptible to bribes, and willing to do the most for various business giants in exchange for power and payments. I was always against him and extremely alarmed, but no, I did not foresee attempting to destroy NATO, because I assumed that business conglomerates and even the oligarchs of today would not want our country totally without allies. For me, this end was not predictable. I did not have the imagination for this.

Life on Greenland will be made much worse by that… I can’t remember the name of the act that doesn’t allow ships to go into Puerto Rico…the Jones act

I don’t think you realize that non-Americans do not want to be part of the USA no matter how much your Trump government will pay.

Great idea. Let’s trade PR for Greenland. Throw in Guam too.
