Political Discussion
1) These studies are all self-reported. People may not be completely honest in their answers. It’s entirely possible that conservatives aren’t happier in reality, but feel a strong need to tell everyone else that they are happier. Because, presumably, that means the world is how it should be, and the deserving folk (conservatives) have a justifiably better life than all those lazy, godless parasites. 2) That goes double for women, who have to accept a system in which they’re second class citizens, in return for the security of church and marriage. Even if the marriage is unhappy or domestic life starts to feel like a straitjacket, they’re conditioned not to complain. It’s instructive to look back at the 1950s and 60s, a period venerated by conservatives, when large numbers of housewives turned to Miltown, Atarax, and other tranquilizers to cope with stress and anxiety. The Stones wrote “Mother’s Little Helper” about this phenomenon. 2) Conservatives feel zero guilt about others’ misfortunes. If other people suffer or fail, it’s their own fault. If you think the world is just and the system is fair, you sleep well at night. If you look around at the world and notice injustice and corruption and how arbitrary life is (like many liberals do), that leads to a sense of unease. Would you rather be happy, or aware? The answer to that question probably feeds into a lot of people’s political leanings. |
Trump won votes sharply across men of all demographics. In fact, the votes he got from men who aren’t white were critical to his election. Are you unaware of the data from the last election? You seem pretty out of touch |
Why would any lesbian ever want to be part of a political movement that hates, and I mean absolutely reviles and detests lesbians? Was your "sounds like me but I'm a conservative lesbian" a poorly thought out attempt at humor or rebuttal? |
Non-lesbian conservative here. We don't hate lesbians. We dont revile or detest them either. I bet you tell your exes that no one will ever love them as much as you did. |
There are plenty of women who are both happy and aware. |
Wierd how thers so much anxiety about things outside of their control Conservatives, believing that heirarchies are natural tend to change the things within their control rather than letting things happen. |
Will you two stop with the awful fiction. Go write your sick MAGA fantasy nonsense elsewhere. |
Conservatives are more fearful, as demonstrated by MRIs showing larger amygdalas. Also explains the findings showing they have to pretend to be happier and not have mental illness due to fears of stigma. |
If they researched DCUM the results would be markedly different. |
Vance is just creepy. And weird. |
|
It could be something quite simple.
Maybe OP’s son just favors low taxes, legal and controlled immigration, and less regulation? |
You think DCUM is a representative sample of the population? Maybe learn basic info about research methods? |
Of course not but here we are. The alt-left posters here are angry and vindictive. |
If I used DCUM, I would think republicans are racist and misogynist. But at least I know it is not a representative sample and have friends and family who believe differently than me. Do you not have real world friends or family with different political views? Get out of your bubble. |
I literally don’t have a bubble. You seem to be the only liberal poster here that doesn’t think Republicans are all MAGA pedo-loving, misogynistic, knuckle dragging wife beaters. Have you not read most of this thread, or any other thread here for that matter? |
