Fully agree with your first part. On the ethics part, the closest comparison is people egregiously redshirting because they perceive it as an advantage, not FA. FA is closest to price differentiation for the same quality of seat. |
Estimating that waste, fraud, and abuse is approximately 50% of the FA budget. |
You should actively tell your school this. Be the loudest voice in the room. Yell at someone in the FA office. Present all of this with apparently zero evidence. Accuse the administration of corruption. You might be asked to leave the school, but you will have done a great service to…something. |
They are not the same at all. FA is entirely about the parents, their financial status, and their ethical standards or lack there of. |
Put down the wine. |
Lol not even close. |
The rebuttal of a person who has no rebuttal and knows their views are out of line with the norm. |
The lack of transparency and accountability is what leads to waste, fraud, and abuse. We all know the FA situation is a set up for these issues. |
So, again, if there is such rampant fraud and abuse, you have plenty of outlets to share that information. Please do and report back. |

The poster who is so aghast about the financial aid practices shared by a dozen or more DMV privates schools clearly needs to apply to be the Director of Aid at their kid's school.
Screaming endlessly into the void on DCUM on this subject isn't going to do anything but harm their own health. Stress is bad. |
Claiming to be disabled for airline benefits is a lot like claiming to be financially disadvantaged for private school financial aid. |
|
The airlines are complicit in the priority seating scam because they allow. Of course, they are fenced in on what they can do because of regulations, threats of lawsuits and a press that is unlikely to take their side.
The schools, however, acre the deciders on to whom the distribute FA. They can chortle not believe what’s on the FA application or even disregard it. What they shouldn’t want to happen is people losing faith in the “fairness” of what they are doing. FA grants to people that the jury of parents feel are not worthy or who don’t really need it is a problem. They’ve already got a problem with many misunderstanding why FA exists and what it’s supposed to accomplish. If a large numbers of people believe that the only legitimate recipients of FA are poor kids, then the school is starting in the hole. |
| “Choose”not “chortle”. |
| If they make poor kids ineligible and give absorbent amounts of money to rich families then we will have an education system that mirrors the system of government that allows socialist style policies to the rich only. It harkens back to our humble roots of bailing out banks and billionaires because everyone knows socialism for richers only makes our country healthier more prosperous. |
The majority of disabled people who use a wheelchair in daily life can also walk a little. They use a chair when they're feeling poorly or have to walk a long distance or need to save energy. Being able to walk a little doesn't mean they don't truly need a wheelchair. But these people face continued harassment from busybodies who think you should only use a wheelchair or services (or handicap parking) if you are entirely wheelchair bound. Those busybodies are the same as the people claiming you should only get FA if you are destitute. |
