Look, Democrats, if you really insist on these high standards for our candidates while Republicans don't care about worse stuff for their candidates, Democrats will just continue to be the losing party. Please understand this.

+1,000. Enjoy that moral high ground. When the bodies of dead trans kids and miscarrying mothers start piling up, you can tell their families that you held to your principles, and it was all the Democrats fault.

Can you be just a tad more hyperbolic?

There just isn’t enough fear mongering here.

Unhinged statement. Not happening and not going to happen.

Drama queen much?

It is a myth that transitioning keeps kids from committing suicide.
Also, not sure what your myth is about miscarrying moms.

People are dying and living markedly worse lives thanks to MAGA. Elections have consequences. If you’re insulated from them great. But just realize the people you claim to care about may not be. Might change your moral calculus.

Virginia’s Democratic nominee for attorney general faced bipartisan backlash Friday night after text messages from 2022 surfaced in which he suggested the top Republican in the state House of Delegates “gets two bullets to the head.”

The messages by Jay Jones, who did not hold elected office at the time, were directed at then-speaker of the House Todd Gilbert.

Damn…..

Louise Lucas and Mamie Locke have reaffirmed their support for Jay Jones - after the horrible text message came to light.

There are always decisions to be made about how voters feel about a candidate's character as well as their positions.

A lot of us lean Democratic and were prepared to support Jones for his positions, but the recent revelations demonstrate a real lack of character and basic decency.

The fact that Lucas and Locke - who have always stood for soaking NoVa to benefit other parts of the state - add fuel to the fire.

If I weren't prepared to support Spanberger, I would have more reservations about voting for Miyares at this point, but with Spanberger still likely assured of victory it's easier to accept the unfortunate reality that Jones has no business serving as AG. I don't like a lot of Miyares' political positions, but he's not as reckless and obviously unsuited for public office as Jones has been revealed to be.

If this is your position than you need to accept it’s going to be another four years of rolling over to Trump while Miyares harasses liberal organizations, colleges, and school districts with sham investigations that go nowhere. Don’t pretend. The AG decides what Virginia fights, and so far to date, the states that fight Trump win. Miyares is on the side of Trump and won’t defend Virginia.

Exactly.

Miyares would continue to enable all of Trump’s insanity.

He won’t protect Virginians.

I'll take my chances with Miyares. It is clear that Jones does not intend to protect Virginians. Several examples here on this thread.

How has Miyares defended Virginians? Is it the expensive politically motivated investigations that went no where? The refusal to defend freedom of speech at Virginia universities? The refusal to stand up to illegal Trump Administration actions to withhold money we were entitled to, when other states stood up and won?

No, it’s not any of those. Miyares has done a pretty good job representing a small segment of weird white Christian men with trans obsession, but I can’t think of any other Virginian that has benefited from his leadership. His malfeasance has cost us a fortune.

Please be specific. If you mean going after LCPS and FCPS, I fully support that.

I’m also going to be splitting my vote with Spanberger and Miyares. The fact that Democrats decided Jay Jones was the best they had and ran him out there without doing some basic digging into his background is not my problem. Y’all just can’t get out of your own way, and then want to berate people for not being willing to hold their nose and vote for their sh!tty candidate. How about run better candidates? You should have had someone as a complement to Spanberger, who I am actually thrilled to be able to vote for. But no, you went with Jay Jones 🙄

Blame yourself sweetie. We’ll have four more years of budget hell and trans panic because you can’t be pragmatic.

Good to know. I expect his office would have come up with something by now, but they don’t seem to very good at anything other than “investigating” and hyping up girl dads with closet pedo leanings.

I mean you can say that, honey but I don’t blame myself for anything. I was provided 2 choices and 1 of them is completely unacceptable. So it is what it is. Put up better candidates. I won’t be brow-beaten into voting for someone like Jay Jones.

It appears the GOP has a new strategy for this election - with the trans panic now quickly growing distasteful and the “parents rights” arguments going nowhere, they are planning to throw Winsome under the bus and convince Democrats to split their ticket.

“But her emails?” No, “but his texts.”

They know that Trump is losing bigly in the courts whenever the Dem states challenge him. If they can convince voters to vote Miyeres, Spanberger will be powerless to stop the MAGA agenda. After all, how can the Governor execute her priorities and demand the funding we are entitled to without the backing of the state’s chief legal officer?

Clever strategy. Let’s hope my fellow Dems aren’t stupid enough to fall for it. They’ve certainly fallen for it before. High standards and moral authority and all that. But now is the time to be pragmatic, folks. Blaming Democrats isn’t going to matter when Miyares invites Trump’s goons into your towns.
