Will school weapon detections cause class time delay?

I just don't know how many parents can do this. Some parents' work place is at the opposite direction from driving to the school. We live not too far not close enough to school. It takes around 45 minutes walking but half of the road has no side walk. School bus pickup time is 7:40am. There were quite a few times last year, the school bus arrived after 8:00. We can't drop our kid at school in early morning due to conflict schedule. We'll see how it works in the first two weeks. We are considering let our high schooler walk or bike to school, just need to be very careful at the busy part of the road.

I dropped my dc off at Westfield last year. The lines were crazy. It doesn't matter what time the kid was dropped off. There was a huge line before the doors opened at 7:40.

This and I don't think Westfield is the only school.

To clarify again, "our" Division is in Virginia (Henrico County) but not in the DMV.

I normally don't reply here in the FCPS thread (as we, clearly, are not in FCPS and don't mean to intrude) but had thought to share our now 2-year experience with Weapons Detectors that, yes, often create delays in getting to class.

High school teachers had their contracts changed to 8;00 this year, so when your kids come early there won't be teacher available.

Teachers don't have to be at work more than ten minutes before class starts?

Our HS has a lot of classes outside in trailers so there is a lot of movement between the building and trailers between each class period. Will the students have to go back through the metal detectors each time they enter the building?

Well thank you for doing that!

oh no, they are only manned for 20 minutes each day, because school shooters are known for their prompt arrivals. From 6 am - 10 pm, the buildings are otherwise wide open.

It’s usually about 15 minutes prior to the first bell.

I heard that one large HS school is not going to start the metal detectors for three weeks. So I guess that will give people time to know exactly what their first and second period is just in case there is a schedule change.

My MS student was told today that the detectors wouldn't be installed until October.

Who do we email or call to say we don’t want this?

That's incorrect. They changed teacher start times to 8:00, 10 minutes before class starts.

Theoretically, the School Board. But they've apparently ceded all control to the Superintendent.
