What makes you expect that from MCPS or the BOE?

Just seems reasonable to give them some time. Especially if people are saying they hope people are fired. Probably want to avoid another lawsuit ... get their ducks in a row ... I don't know. I've been pleasantly surprised by Dr. Taylor's leadership, so maybe I'm just giving them too much of a benefit of the doubt.

Why? There's a separate thread on Dr. Taylor's first year, and no one could really find much to praise him for, except maybe being a good schmoozer and getting more budget from MCPS from the County Council.

Because BCC is finally getting attention from MCPS this year. Because I appreciate his transparency. Because, whether or not you agree with the direction, they're actually trying to bring in public comment on the redistricting and improving HS programs across the board (instead of only in pockets). Because he's responsive (whether you like how he responds, is another story). Because he's having to clean up the previous superintendent's mess and that is going to take time. Because I find the focus on positive spin and finding joy and humor refreshing.

I don't think having MCPS defend itself in a lawsuit from a teacher in which the BCC principal admits under oath to defaming a BCC teacher constitutes "BCC finally getting attention from MCPS this year."

Are you a BCC family? BCC is getting attention. We've had major safety issues and have been finally having MCPS step up and pay attention. It actually is unrelated to this court case that BCC is getting attention.

Yes, I am a BCC family. What on earth are you talking about that you're seeing all these improvements?

MCPS has held safety meetings with BCC community members throughout the spring. They had district security personnel on campus supporting the BCC security in the spring. I'm not saying there are improvements at BCC, I'm saying there are improvements that MCPS is no longer brushing off the concerns. They kicked the can down the road for six years under the previous superintendent and completely disregarded concerns taken straight to the county. There was no accountability and no one was paying any attention to how atrocious a principal Mooney has been. They are now.

What are you talking about? Doesn't CO want principals they can use as scapegoat? Do you seriously think they think he is atrocius from a "we need to look like a good school district" perspective? Is he trying to get promoted to CO and CO is saying nah you're better right where you are? Who is eyeing his job? Who is capable of leading a large diverse school that has the smallest footprint of all the county high schools and one that has an open lunch?

The school will lose yet more teachers because of unwillingness to improve school safety.

First PP--how nice that BCC getting "attention" even if no actual changes have been made makes you happy. I wish I could feel the same.

Second PP-I hope you're not in MCPS HR, because you seemed overwhelmed with the idea that no one could possibly manage being the principal of BCC. I assure you there are capable candidates out there--some that are more capable than Mooney.

You are getting K Yates a retired but can't actually retire guy at BCC now. Happy?

He’s a good guy. Will do well.

Who's "happy?" A teacher who was by all accounts a good one was defamed and BCC lost him to Whitman. And MCPS is paying 500K+ for a lawsuit it should have settled. And BCC gets a retired last-minute principal replacement who is a known quantity but is "acting" so presumably he'll be gone super-quick and we'll get another new principal for BCC who has to find their way around the following year.

None of this is way a good school district should be run.

Maybe, maybe not. He was "acting" at Blair for the whole school year.

And you think it's good for a school to have a new principal yearly?

All the other BCC and principal threads have now been locked. Keep it up posters and get this one locked too.

Yearly? BCC's principal was around for 6 years. That's a lifetime for HS. have you seen a high school lately? Most around here are the size of a small liberal arts college or larger than those colleges.

No, I was just pointing out that an acting appointment could be either short-term or long-term.

Just a thought...what if Mooney actually wanted out of BCC? Did he think by getting rid of that former BCC teacher, he would also be transferred? It didn't happen then and despite multiple lockdowns and student incidents, it still didn't happen. Did he made up the part that he made up a lie to try to get out of BCC finally?
