I worked at a nice high end restaurant in NYC during college. If you worked the dinner shift, they had “Family Dinner” starting at 445pm. It was buffet style and you had to eat it standing up. But it was always a protein, vegetable, salad, and maybe a dinner roll. They let us drink coffees from the automatic espresso machine. During count out and table setting at end of dinner service, we could have a glass of wine from one of the open bottles or a beer.
As a teen I worked at a fast food place in Disneyland. They didn’t give us any free food. We would save food if a customer returned something since we couldn’t resell it; one of us would eventually eat it. I remember stealing chicken sandwiches at the end of my shift and stealthily eating it in the underground tunnels backstage during my breaks lol
Disneyland did give employees free access to the park on your day off. You could bring a free guest a certain number of times per year. I took advantage of that a few times to bring my girlfriend. It blew my mind how many of my coworkers would spend their free time at the park.
