Evil. |
Baskin & Robbins workers used to get a free cone after every shift. |
The police absolutely have discretion whether to arrest or not. |
| Last time we visited Chick-fil-A we asked the associates if they get free food. The kids said to get a free meal of their choice every shift. So a free $10 meal at a Christian owned fast food place, while this faux Christian owned grocery store is plotting to hang a felony on a kid after 3 months of taking chicken tenders. |

If you're in a position of authority, like a manager, and you see this happening and say nothing, you've endorsed it.
You get the culture you allow. |
| Is this the guy who was fired for eating out of the daily discard pile? |
Yes. A kid who walked to work. |
I worked at Hardee's and we got free food up to a certain $ amount per shift. It was enough for a main dish, side, and drink. Might differ by the franchise. |
Doesn’t half of this grocery store food get tossed anyway? The kind thing to do would have been to let him save a leftover at the end of his shift, no harm to the company at all. This is sad

I don’t agree with their politics but they clearly know how to treat their employees well. This story is so sad, poor guy. It seemed like it wasn’t a surprise to him - was he given a heads up? |

I hope the locals backed this kid and boycotted the store chain.
I worked at McDonalds as a teenager. We got nothing for free. Not even a soda. This was decades ago. My brother worked at a nice restaurant as a busboy or something similar. The teens were poorly treated and no food. My daughter worked in a restaurant owned by an idiot who left the kids to run the restaurant on their own. No meals there either, and that was fairly recent. I learned from DCUM that a lot of restaurants give meals to their employees. That was news to me, lol. |
| It’s super franchise dependent. I worked at Arby’s, McDonalds, Wendy’s, and a large movie theater chain. McDonalds and Wendy’s gave a free meal (sandwich + fries + drink, all the “regular” size which was medium at McD’s and small at Wendy’s) on a 6+ hour shift. On shorter shifts you had to pick if you wanted a sandwich or fries but you still got a drink. The movie theater gave us free sodas as long as you brought your own cup from home and a free small bag of popcorn on break. Arby’s gave us nothing but a small discount. |

Listen, I agree that this was really mean-spirited.
But I don’t agree with the defense of “I got away with doing it and you never stopped me, so I figured it was okay.” You are not permitted to simply do what you want until someone stops you. |
