A lot of folks may have moved away and might come back short term but unless a high paid job they wont move back or rent a pied a tier. Also people over 60 already in Florida just loggin on each day may not come back.

What are they gonna do after they see?

This is simply not true. 2 days a week in office for several years now.

Correct. It’s Fannie that has not been in the office. Freddie has been 3 days a week for a long time.

Do we think cuts will happen prior to this May 1 “Elon out” deadline?

Freddie employees have been going to office Tuesday to Thursday since January 2023. From April 1, 2022 it was twice a week, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

In a merger situation, so obviously! The streamlining effort that is going on in government will hit Fannie+Freddie. I think many departments that do similar/same work is at risk. It's unique roles and who is more liked that works in favor of an employee during reorgs like this.

There are no plans to merge Freddie and Fannie. This is fake news.
However, privatization is on the table.

I thought the whole raison d'etre for Fannie and Freddie is that the private sector isn't interested in providing this service.

Not correct

Private sector would do this and do it well.

But with Fannie and Freddie able to borrow at gov rates , they can always beat the private sector sector

US needs to privatize the GSEs and let the market do its magic

We will know soon if they will go for a merger/SWF/privatization. Either way, they seem to think that cuts would be necessary to raise capital and attract investors

Which jobs/ departments are at risk to be cut first? HR, Legal, Risk, compliance, IT, accounting?

You still can live anywhere with 3 days a week in office, it is 2 nights a cheap hotel.
