Heard of some layoffs at Fannie today. Not sure which group though. Any insights?

I was part of the 2020 Serverance Layoffs at Freddie. Turned out to be a great thing for this 60 something old man, got a new job with a decent firm, got out of the Freddie H1B madness, booked an entire year of salary on top of the new job salary, did Roth back door conversions, and retired at 64, 4 years later.

but I had to call Freddie HR Connect on friday and they said none of the HR folks were available, there were all in Severance training, maybe in preparation for another round of layoffs??? or for their own Severance???

I’m ignorant in this, but I thought Fannie and Freddie were govt. agencies. How can they bring in all these foreign people?

They are Government-Sponsored Enterprises (GSEs), meaning they are privately owned companies that operate under a congressional charter but serve a public purpose.

How long are H1B visas good for? I feel like it’s a flood. They aren’t being hired for “cheap labor”, bc their salaries are comparable to an us citizen, no?

Why can’t they do away with them- send them back to their countries- and hire us citizens- from fed govt and elsewhere?
