Those parents didn't care that a study was just done a few years prior that gave fewer years for buses to arrive early, they didn't care about middle school after school busses coming back after five, and they didn't care about elementary times changing to later. I have no idea who started that group but they were very ill informed and sadly brought a lot of others with them. They showed up at every school board meeting acting like this was the most important thing in the world and had no care for the repercussions on other activities and years within the school system. At least when the high school parents did it, they were much more informed and proposed changes that would be acceptable to all. |
Turning this back around ONCE AGAIN to focus on the proposed elimination of MSAS. If you would like to talk about MS start times, start or find another thread. |
What? High school also has late buses. |
My DS relied on late buses to come home after the Science Olympiad study meetings every Wednesday and Thursday this year. This sucks that this opportunity won't be available any more. |
Ours doesnt |
Is this what is proposed being cut, the NCS MSAS because FCPS clubs serve same purpose? https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/neighborhood-community-services/afterschool-programs |
NCS provides almost $4M to the middle school after school program. It's one of those partnerships where the program is technically an FCPS program, MSAS specialists are FCPS staff, but the funding comes from the county. NCS is eliminating their portion of the funding. What this means is that if FCPS doesn't take on the responsibility of being the sole funder, the program would go away and all 26 specialists would lose their jobs. FCPS clubs at the middle school level, are part of the MSAS program. Funding for those come from that $4M. The exception being cross-country and track. |
Have no school board members out out email or statement on what the budget cuts actually mean? It seems enough would have reached out that someone would have said, yes, this does mean that all but sports are cut or no, everyone on DCUM is reading this wrong. It’s in their best interest at this point to clarify”, but I haven’t seen anything. Have you? |
Why is NCS eliminating funding? |
Each county agency was asked to cut 10% from their budgets. I imagine this cut was part of satisfying that requirement AND it was to something that NCS didn't have direct ownership over. |
There are no fcps clubs. All fcps provides after school at middle schools is running (which appeals to a very small percentage of studenrs). |
They were just as surprised about it as everyone else. But yes, it's odd no one has mentioned it all. They are scheduled to talk to the BOS. |
Please go back to the middle school start times thread. |
Please go back and read this thread. We have explained it several times. |
Late buses are still in the FCPS budget |
