Trump will rollback student loan forgiveness

The only people in favor of student loan forgiveness are the people who have the loans. I would be in favor of 100% loan forgiveness to teachers and medical professionals with the proviso that they must teach for ten years and medical professionals must practice in rural areas desperately in need of medical help for ten years.

I agree but I think it should be expanded to the helping professions where it’s so expensive to get your degree and you start off with a very low salary. Social work of any kind. Our mental health agencies and agencies that protect children are understaffed and staff is poorly trained. People need to stop complaining about food stamps when you have someone suffering from a serious mental illness and there’s no treatment available.

Similiar to how organizations will pay tuition for employees who agree to work x amount of time for company.

Loans should be limited to certain fields, education, health care, STEAM.

DP. I took out a student loan with the original agreement that after 250 on time payments, it will be forgiven. This was the agreement. Sadly the government did not keep their side of the deal, until Biden.

End for-profit schools.
End needing a Bachelor's for every job.

A medical Assistant doesn't need a college degree. Return to teaching trades in high school. Every high school student should graduate with an entry-level career.

Maybe put a cap on how much can be borrowed.

Definitely cap tuition expenses.

There are a lot of policy discussions we could be having on how to make higher education possible for all Americans. Unfortunately, it’s been turned into grievance football. Just like everything else Trump touches.

Biden made student loans forgiveness a “grievance football” for many non Trump supporters including me and my DH who deferred a good deal of what our friends had do that we could rapidly pay back loans. People who bought houses five years before we did had loans forgiven
We are the suckers.

The only people who actually received student loan forgiveness were those in PSLF or who had paid for more than 20/25 years. These people were supposed to be forgiven according to the terms of their promissory notes and the bipartisan education law signed by GWB.

All other efforts by Biden to forgive students loans were not enacted.

You’re a sucker because you didn’t understand the law? No, that just makes you ignorant of your options. That’s like paying extra taxes when a CPA could help you legally minimize your tax burden.

No, those of us who have been paying for 25 years are still paying. The a$$hat MAGA suckup Missouri AG filed suit in a MAGA court, and now it’s blocked. And now with Drumpf, it will never happen. It seems illegal to continue to make us pay. I have more than paid back the amount of my loan plus tons of interest.
YOU took out a loan to pay for your education. Why am I, a taxpayer, liable for YOUR debt? If I am, taxpayers can be forced to pay off car loans or mortgages.

Pay your bill and shut up, don’t expect yet another handout from the govt.

It sounds like a Breach of Contract with grounds for legal action unless the contract had small print saying, “The govt. is not obligated to honor the contract for…whatever reason. “

Her’s your chance to add yet another lawsuit against Teflon Trump.

Again, the loan servicers did not track loan history when they bought and sold loans. Your loan history with the previous loan servicer did not carry over to the new loan servicers. So they could not track the number of payments and therefore the government could not forgive loans after 250 payments. Additionally, loan servicers did not put borrowers in the correct payback group often because they would not make as much money. There are HUGE problems with these loan servicing companies that have sprung up.

There’s literally programs in all 50 states to help poor people pay for electricity and heating oil lol

And there are programs to help poor people go to college. What we are talking about is UMCs getting freebies.

Are school teachers, social workers, cops, firefighters, and GS8’s part of the Upper Middle Class?

I just don't understand why federal student loans have a high interest rate. There should be a minimal interest rate. What is the reasoning for charging so much?

Read your second paragraph again and you may understand why voters turned away from the democrats on this issue. Blatant attempts to do end runs around the courts were a disgusting act by Biden.

Were you equally disgusted by the Trump administration who went out of their way to refuse to enforce the law in 2017-2020 when the first PSLF cohorts were supposed to be forgiven? The Trump administration was blatantly ignoring the plain letter law.

If not, STFU and sit down. Though I’m surprised you can even with a such a large leather boot stuck in your gullet.

Nah, I’ll keep telling you to pay your down d loans. And I will say it more loudly this time.

+1

I think the government should cover degrees in certain fields like social work. Go to a public university, work for ten years, never pay for school.

Nope not going to shut up. Take it up with the courts if you feel so strongly with your claim. But Biden doesn’t have the authority to wipe out student loans or legislate a forgiveness package and a lot of us were disgusted by his attempts to do so. Especially when the people he was attempting to wipe debt for are so much better off than the taxpayers having to pay for the plans. Want a free education? Go to a military academy and do it the right way.

But you are OK with Drumpf using executive orders to do all of the crazy sh!t he is going to do? Now that is disgusting. And if you are so bothered by people getting the remainder of their student loan balances canceled after paying for a quarter of a century, then maybe you need to take a hard look at your morals and values.

Yes I’m ok with executive orders that Trump has planned because they fall under his authority as president for things like the border and immigration. Biden doesn’t have the authority to wipe out student loans and leaving us all with the bill.
