I ask because I have had friends based here in DC/NoVA who bought a home in this area and the BAH frequently did NOT cover the full monthly expense of their mortgage payment.

My guess is that the big jump in interest rates out-sped any typical rise in the BAH. It seems that BAH is what needs to be increased and should probably change on a more dynamic basis (i.e., automatically recalibrated every 6 months based on localized housing surveys).

Hey, that's socialism! Why the hell are you MAGAs in support of socialism!

How is volunteering to be in the Armed Forces socialism?

Yes BAH should cover housing and it does at higher pay grades. When I was a 2LT stationed in DC 20 yrs ago it covered a 1 bd apt in DC or close. I got an apt in Columbia to save money and that was about $700 less than my BAH.

No, I don't think it was ever intended to cover the whole cost of housing, but it almost certainly is less now with inflation. I was formerly in the military and I always had to live with housemates to stay under the BAH.

I should add it also varies widely by location.

Nice to see a democrat supporting our troops.

Would you also say they are losers and suckers?

President Biden supports the troops. Both of his sons served

Funny you say that since the white House is the only thing holding this bill back right now.

+1 democrats pretend declarations are sufficient.

This whole thread makes my head hurt… all sides.

This was a political exercise.

This is for members with big military bases in their districts to talk about in an election year.

Uhh no. The “only” thing holding back the NDAA is about 75 policy disagreements.

It's probably a lot more complex than that - because I'll bet that the Republicans are saying "to give DoD the extra 19.5% you need to take all of that funding away from other agencies" while already proposing deep cuts to those agencies without the military pay funding.

Yep - Congress isn't backing the pay raise. There's a budget increase but it won't cover pay raises.
