Conjoined twin Abby Hensel is now married

Anonymous
Other places have comments saying they’ve been married since 2021 and this is only making news now because they updated their Facebook profile and while only Abby is legally married they are really all married.

+1. He probably fell in love with Abby first and then the twin.

I don’t understand how he could fall in love with one first and not both. They never have alone time. It’s clearly a package deal.

They are twins attached to each other. Do you know any identical twins? They are individuals with distinct personalities.

Are you unable to understand that these women are not separate people? To pretend they are just “identical twins” is not acknowledging their situation. 99.9% of other identical twins do not have their sibling literally attached to their body. They have the freedom to experience life as individuals. These women do not. They are ALWAYS together. Do you think one is just chatting up her man and the other is asleep and silent?

So I happened to see a different set of conjoined twins having a disagreement. They are two distinct people. When you add two brains that’s going to be 2 personalities.

There are like 4 living sets of conjoined twins in the world. Which ones did you witness arguing?

That cannot get away from each other. Ever. There’s no separate friend. No separate hobbies. No separate bed or awake times. What one does the other does.

That is why a PP above said they were a packaged deal.

The ones a few pages ago. Carmen and Lupita. It was a disagreement not argument. Just like other tourist probably just trying to decide on a lunch spot.

Legalities aside, it's hard to see how someone can be married to one, but not the other. If the husband is really only in love with Abby, how does this not negatively impact Brittany? With the exception of kissing, they will experience the same things physically, but emotionally he is in love with just one? How could that not be difficult? I hope Brittany can find love, too.

And what happens if Brittany wants to date and get married?

Maybe he’s the greatest guy in the world. Or maybe he gets off feeling like he gets to be with two women all the time.

I feel sorry for Brittany regardless.

Yeah I wonder how that would work bc Abby is a married woman and she is now dating some guy ? It doesn’t seem logical that he isn’t married to both of them. and let’s be honest even if he married both of them is it really bigotry? Could anyway really bring themselves to make that argument?

They only have one set of reproductive organs, so it isn't like he can only have sex with Abby. When the husband has sex he is having sex with both of them because they share a vagina. So what if Brittany says no she doesn't want to have sex and Abby wants to have sex with her husband? The whole thing is so bizzare.

They've probably already covered this and any potential children/legalities with their lawyer. I don't know the answers but hopefully they do.

I work in child support (state administrative orders) and I could laugh or more likely cry about how complicated this could be IF they fail to get
everything nailed down legally (determining legal paternity and maternity, for one thing). .

There is no way to cover this because there are no laws covering a two headed one torso human being. There is no issue with legal paternity it is how maternity is established. Why are you assuming they have a lawyer?

I'm assuming they have a lawyer because of their unique situation that can cause complications legally.

In some states, the husband is the legal father of the child even if not the bio father. So.... Brittany has sex with a guy out of wedlock, the guy leaves, the twins get pregnant and now Abby's husband is the legal father. Or... something like that.

They definitely have a lawyer. They're not just out there wingin it.

There is no Brittany having sex with a guy or Abby having sex with a guy. What part of ONE reproductive system don't you get? They are always 100% of the time BOTH having sex at the same time. There is no legal precedent or cases because almost every single case like this the twins die in the womb or shortly after birth. They are probably only three dicephalus twins on the face of the earth right now. One set is in Turkey- Ayşe and Sema Tanrıkulu

It's totally weird and the posters gaslighting like they wouldn't have questions if their son walked in with a girlfriend like Abby are delusional. Also saying they're not medical abnormalities. They are and they've been studied their whole lives. That will probably continue. It's a pretty unique thing, odd to act like it's not. I'm a twin myself but my BIL doesn't have to screw me as someone along for the ride. That's VERY odd. They're anatomically a 2 headed person.

What I think is weird is posters pretending that this situation isn't highly unusual and that people are wrong to be curious. No one here is being cruel or disrespectful. Everyone seems to recognize that these are lovely women, and wishes them the best. I doubt anyone here would point and laugh at the twins if they met them, and be like "So how do y'all have sex?" This is an anonymous forum.
What I find particularly interesting is that people are asking progressive-minded questions about consent, autonomy and fairness. Yes, people are curious, because this is a very curious situation, but they are wondering things that people wouldn't really have considered twenty years ago. But even this is beneath some people, and how dare we wonder at all. These people just suck the air out of absolutely everything.

Girl, I’m talking about how they literally look not biology. Look at a picture of them and tell me they look exactly the same. They look less alike than my siblings who are fraternal twins.

Which is exactly why they need to have plans in place for such possibilities. The state is not going to be able to determine legal paternity and maternity in the situation I mentioned which is why they would need an attorney help them navigate all this.

One would have to die. It would be like Sophie’s choice. I think they did the right thing.

Sometimes parents have to make tough choices.

I don't know if this is posted somewhere already, but the parents must have known there was a conjoined fetus the mom was carrying. Were they not advised about the details & what it would mean if they carried to term?

No, she didn't even know she was having twins until the birth. They were only supposed to live a few days but miraculously we know the outcome.

"Parents Patty and Mike Hensel didn't know they were expecting conjoined twins. Patty's pregnancy appeared to be going swimmingly, and there was nothing alarming about any of her ultrasounds. Doctors later concluded that the twins' heads must have been perfectly aligned during each sonogram, giving the appearance of a fetus with just one head instead of two. However, their father may have caught on to a major clue during the pregnancy. In a 2001 piece, Time revealed that Mike had reportedly heard two heartbeats during one sonogram, but his observation was dismissed.

At the time of the twins' birth, Patty was scheduled to undergo a C-section because doctors thought the fetus was in the breech position — a term used to describe when a baby is positioned in the womb bottom-first rather than head-first. When the conjoined twins were pulled out, revealing two heads, their physician, Dr. Joy Westerdahl, admitted that everyone in the delivery room was so stunned that the room fell silent "for about 30 seconds."

What are the odds two heads would perfectly align in each of multiple ultrasounds given?

Human perception is actually pretty fascinating.

We tend to see what we expect (hence why people often miss motorcycle on the road. They are looking out for cars)

But in the medical field??!! That's where you need to be exact & precise.
