Does anyone else hate Bethesda?

100% accurate and my experience there as well

But I needed 5BDRs. And a garage. And a yard. And realized none of this existed without a $3.X - so we slid the map further west. Found a plenty big house in Potomac. So far into the woods I can barely see the neighbors. Most of my trips are to the Village or Cabin John and occasionally Montgomery Mall or Rockville. I do not miss Bethesda retail. I do not miss the proximity between homes. And I would rather be amongst the conservation trees and the conservative views than jammed in with the yard signs and the virtuous.

This just sounds like massive justification, but okay. If you’re driving into DC, that sucks, but whatever floats your boat.

Bethesda is easily the best neighborhood in the DMV. Anyone who thinks otherwise is clueless.

There are plenty of houses available in Bethesda despite this being a quiet time for the market.

No actually there aren’t. You’re either looking at paramount spam or townhouses/condos. Basically zero SFHs.

I really don’t think you understand how to use Zillow. I found at least 9 houses for sale that are not new construction or condos - I stopped after page 1. I didn’t include the house for sale at 24 million

Many of these are in the part of 20817 near 270 and 495 which will always be less desirable. Others are over $2.5 million (one is over $7 million). If you don't want to live near highways, and don't have a budget over $2.5 million, there are two options on your list. Those two have been on the market for under a week.

So first you say there are no houses, now it’s they aren’t in the right area or are too expensive. Bethesda is a desirable area so perfection may not be available.

I said “almost zero” which is correct.

You said basically zero which means ZERO

Thats a bit of a myth. Places like Avenil is like 1/2 Bethesda and 1/2 Potomac sometimes barely a difference.

Haha, no it’s not. To me it’s soulless and disjointed, which makes it unpleasant. There are some good restaurants and the housing stock is great, but the traffic and hideous high rises are a nightmare.

If you want the highest concentration of Karens, Kevins and racists in this area look no further than Bethesda/CC

It seems pretty nice. Too far outside DC for me, but when we go there with my kid I find it very livable and there's stuff to do (nice parks, children's museum). There also are some decent food options (Vace, Aventino, Andy's Pizza, etc.). Not sure what people are comparing it to but for the suburbs it has walkability and public transit and decent retail.

OK, I'm not sure why you think this bickering is productive, but you win! The point is that it sucks to be homebuyer looking in Bethesda right now. Complainers who hate it, please move and sell your house. Let someone who wants to live in Bethesda buy your place, and make bank.

No one. Just totally
Offended by the poor yet wannabe snobs in Bethesda. Some of the worst people around and yet they have no reason for it. Thanks goodness they can’t afford to live where I do.

They are the worst. They think they're hot shit because they live in Bethesda and have a 7000 Sq ft house in their 10000 Sq foot lot

Like I said, they have a good bagel shop - it’s the only draw. But, almost without fail, every trip provides a reminder of the terrible nature of those who live there. If there were farms, ball fields and country clubs north and west of DC, I would be much happier.

I don’t understand the antagonism. It’s a suburb, the homes are fairly nice, it’s close to DC, and the schools are good. Is there some sort of reverse psychology going on where others in MoCo and Maryland resent the fact that Bethesda and a few other suburbs prop everyone else up? I don’t go there often enough to assess whether there’s something uniquely awful about the residents, but it’s hard to imagine that’s the case. Do you go after people living in AU Park or Chevy Chase this hard, too?

I go after AU Parkers and Bethesda’s residents with the same vigor. Both are filled with the same type of jerks, no-it-alls and self important types (with minimal to no basis for their attitudes). I would rather golf courses and parks in both locations. [/quo

In life generally, it may not be wise to paint with such a broad brush. In any case, why "go after" people with "vigor?"

I go after them here.

Bethesda is a great first ring suburb. I just wish there could be more local stores with some character, like they have more of in Alexandria.

Yeah, I don’t recognize the place I’ve lived for 20 years from these posts. Maybe it’s different if you bought here because you loved the trees and green and being right next to the tow path. Or maybe just because you bought 20 years ago?

lol and what beautiful neighborhood do you live in that’s so expensive?

Closest house to me for sale right now is over $9 million. That neighborhood.

lol the closest house to me is selling for $24M - that means nothing. You are a little man who needs justification for their life. You are a special boy! Congrats!
