Does anyone else hate Bethesda?

Can you please leave ASAP? We don't want you in MoCo. You seem toxic.

Honestly, where else would you suggest for close to DC, walkable, low proportion of Trump supporters, and good public schools?

It's easy to shit on Bethesda and MoCo, but are there actually any better options??

This is why Gen Z is calling it “Bethezdump” on social media

They can't afford it so they don't want it

I’m not Gen Z, middle age. But I can totally see why the young kids these days call it boring and a dump.

There is no way I would live in Bethesda if I was young and single. No way. Boring.

Let’s be real here. Even if they had the money, they wouldn’t be living in Bethesda. No, the kids with money from wealthy parents are buying places in the city like Logan Circle, Navy Yard, Shaw, Union Market.

You should see the people moving into the $3 million+ new builds. They're young families, they have the money, and they're choosing Bethesda. I wish I had that sort of money also, but I'm not going to badmouth Bethesda just because I can't afford it. I like going to the downtown area (both old and new), and I had the money, Bethesda would be my first choice in this area as to where to live.

The kids who are calling it "boring and a dump," if they actually exist and are not some figment of your trolling imagination, will one day grow up and have kids, and if they can afford it, many of them will choose Bethesda.

I’m the PP and I said young and single, not mid 30’s with young kids.

Reality is lots of people are sending their kids to private schools in Bethesda and not public. If you are going to do that for your kids, might as well just stay in the city, live WOTP which has much more character and nicer neighborhoods then cookie cutter new builds like Bethesda.

If you can’t afford private and are going to send your kid to public, McLean has better school pyramid, bigger and better neighborhoods, can go to TJ for high school, and a ton of great in state colleges.

Plus it’s actually closer to downtown than Bethesda Row both in commute and the metro.

The Bethesda folks who want to send their kids in private schools want the private schools in Bethesda; it makes no sense to live in DC or McLean then have to drive your kids to their Bethesda private school. Also, they don't aspire to send their kids to an in state Virginia college. And if you think McLean has better neighborhoods, that just means you don't really know Bethesda very well. Finally, your commuting math is off -- both areas are pretty large and it depends where in downtown you're going, but overall it's about equal from both areas.

Bethesda has a better school pyramid than McLean, unless you're talking about more on the Great Falls/Langley high school pyramid. Then they might be equivalent.

Yes Mclean is large but a very large part of that area is much closer to downtown then the closest area in Bethesda. That’s the area off Dolly Madison Road (jump on GW Parkway) all the way to huge radius around Tysons (jump on 66).

I live about 5-10 minutes from downtown and can get to either area Mclean in 25 minutes. No way to Bethesda which is easily 40 minutes to the closest part.

Google maps says on a Wednesday at 8:00 AM, the commute from 20816 to 1600 K Street ranges from 20-35 minutes (6.6 miles).

Yep, height of rush hour so even quicker if not rush hour.

There is no way you can do that time from Bethesda. IMO the beltway is much worst during rush hour then GW or 66. 66 is great now that it’s HOV

20816 is Bethesda. Say what you will about Bethesda, but the commute is super easy and quick, whether metro or road. People will and do pay a premium for that easy commute downtown. Add the good schools. A highly educated community. It might not have the most charming downtown, but it's better than what it was ten years ago - with the exception of the loss of Barnes and Noble. If you have a DC focus, Bethesda is much better than the Virgina burbs. No one in Bethesda even looks in the direction of the beltway.
