Nicely done!

Why do people keep saying "She's awake"? Why did the scientist in the hospital come back to life to tell Navarro she would be seeing her mother soon? What's the connection with the symbol and the first season of TD? |
Because when scientists discover new bacteria and it is named after a person, you still have to use the female nominative: https://bio.libretexts.org/Bookshelves/Microbiology/Microbiology_(Boundless)/08%3A_Microbial_Evolution_Phylogeny_and_Diversity/8.04%3A_Classification_of_Microorganisms/8.4D%3A_Classification_and_Nomenclature You see so many diseases that have names ending in -ella (rubella, varicella, etc.). The guy in the hospital is infected the bacteria. I'm pretty sure he knows Navarro from before and knows about her mom. Regardless, they might not explain everything and want a slight supernatural overtone to the story. An unearthed ancient bacteria is the culprit. |
I think Navarro is experiencing delusions like her mother did in the past and her sister does now. |
This sounds like the plot to several zombie movies. LOL. Maybe it is the plot to this show. |
Yes, I think it is going to turn out to be a literal zombie like plot. The girl got murdered in the video on her phone. She was in the mine, so the miners may have been digging up the ancient bacteria that the scientists discovered. They went nuts and murdered her. Also same old staid plot as Last of Us - a pathogen like the fungi can mind control its host. That's actually true of biology in real life. |
| This whole season would literally have been an X-files episode in the 90s. |
"So what are saying, Mulder? There are supernatural beings walking around town?" |
Ugh, it wouldn't be True Detective without wild fan theories based on red herrings in the show. |
So instead of black alien oil it's ancient zombie bacteria? |
I don't think that's a terrible theory actually! |
NP here. It is not a terrible theory but would be a lazy plot since it honestly is the plot to so many zombie apocalypse films/shows. I would be so disappointed if they basically took that premise for this show. It’s so unoriginal. |

I've only seen the first two episodes and really liked them. I like how creepy and weird it is. I've never watched True Detective before, but I think we'll watch Season 1 after we're done with this one.
But I wanted to respond to the conversation about the sex scenes from early in the thread because my DH and I were just talking about this tonight after watching the second episode. We were talking about how it's kind of a bummer what sex is like in TV and movies these days. There's a lot of emphasis on making it "realistic" which means that a lot of times the sex scenes are awkward, uncomfortable, or unappealing. I get sex is a part of life but as a PP said, so is pooping and no one wants to watch a bunch of realistic pooping scenes when they are watching TV. Anyway, DH and I were talking about how sex isn TV/movies these days is an active turn off. Like it's not that it's not all soft focus and intentionally titillating. It's that it's often specifically unpleasant in a way that makes me think "ugh, I forgot how gross sex is when you think about it." And as a middle aged couple who still has a strong marriage but doesn't get it on as much as we used to, this is a bummer because the last thing we need is a turn OFF. I don't need my TV/movie to put me in the mood or whatever, but I wish it wouldn't so often put me OUT of the mood by showing sex is this kind of unpleasant experience. Like when's the last time you saw a sex scene in a contemporary show where it actually seemed enjoyable. Sex is supposed to be enjoyable. People just have these perfunctory orgasms and work out their psychological issues. I am sure sex is like that sometimes, but why is sex on TV and in movies *always* like that now. Society has enough problems, I just don't think we need our art and culture to be making sex seem so unappealing all the time. Once in a while, fine. But not in every single thing I watch. /rant |
This is a sad statement but I love that JF looks like a woman over 50. She’s very attractive IMO but doesn’t look fake or like she’s trying to be 35 again. I’m watching a show with Courtney Cox and she is so attractive but has done so much, it’s distracting. |
To me, at some point the emphasis on fillers and procedures create a general look of being unwell. Like Jodie Foster looks older, but looks healthy, if that makes sense. All of the misshapen faces and unnatural coloring give a sense of being sickly. Altered and sickly. |
