Celebrities who can't act

When I want to see actual acting I usually turn to indie films, sometimes you can see actual talent there.

Me too. This year I actually decided to stop spending money on most mainstream entertainment and support indie films, etc exclusively.

When I watch them I always think about how her part could have been differently cast. Now her daughter is getting into the business.

I agree, I can't stand her.

Omg same with those two movies
Can’t stand her odd style of lilted speech. It’s just off putting and seems like she is just low-energy and dull.

Unpopular opinion as I recently rewatched her brief appearance on a few episodes of 90210, but Hillary Swank.

I know I know. She won twice for Boys Dobt Cry and Million Dollar Baby, but after watching her performance on 90210, I’m rethinking her abilities and have concluded that she is just a terrible actress and got lucky with the right films at the right time. Hinestky she was abruptly fired from that teen drama and it’s completely obvious that it was because she was very very bad.
Made me wonder about her Harvey Weinstein story. Everyone has one.

The most overrated of them all has to be Natalie Portman. Can someone give me one good role she's played? And do I see her out on the awards circuit right now??? She is truly a terrible actress.

Earl Tom Cruise was the best with Rainman and Born on the Fourth of July. He was also great in Tropic Thunder and Interview with a Vampire. All four different from his typical hero roles such as the MI and TG franchises. I think TC can act when he is not relying on special effects and speed adrenaline.

Agreed. Sure he's the same in all of the Mission Impossible movies, but you're forgetting how broad his resume actually is. I don't like him as a human but the man can act.

+100
He is talented.

That opinion shouldn't be unpopular. I only thought Swank performed well in Million Dollar Baby. Maybe she was working something personal out in that role, because something good came through. Swank is forgettable in every other performance I've seen her in and not convincing.

My list:
- Emma Watson
- Orlando Bloom (this guy in particular has the Squint Stare and nothing else)
- Chris Hemsworth
- Emily Blunt
- Amber Heard

There are probably a few more but I can't think of anything right now. Bad actors, you tend to forget their names.

Wow, I wildly disagree with Emily Blunt on that list. I think she's outstanding and hilarious. To the bad acting list, I would add Angelina Jolie, Jessica Alba, Keanu Reeves (but I love him), Gwyneth Paltrow, Madonna, Lindsay Lohan, Katie Holmes, Ryan Phillipe, etc.

The only one who needs to be removed from your bad actor lost is Lindsay Lohan.
For real. Her personal life got real messy but she has always been and remains very talented. She was genius in Mean Girls, Parent Trap, and Freaky Friday as a kid. And she was even pretty impressive in her “comeback” Hallmark Christmas movie last year. Now if she’d just rewind with the plastic surgery that made her look prematurely 58 when she was 25, that would have helped her a lot.

It kind of is if they can't do other roles.

This is Hugh Grant to me.
He is lovely to watch and such fun. But he’s literally just playing himself and appears to be the same character in every movie.
Brilliant that he’s able to make that work! But acting ability? I don’t think so.

+1

Lindsay Lohan is a tragedy because she was a genius actress. Way more than Emily Blunt. The difference is that Emily Blunt has mental health and mediocre/basic acting ability, whereas Lindsay Lohan was Oscar-quality from the bone but her combination of mental illness, drug addiction, and horrifying parents basically just destroyed her brain and her life.

Interesting theory. And I have nothing to substantiate that. Exceot a gut feeling that this tracks.

And Edris Alba always stamping his feet and shouting.

Alba was amazing as Charles on “The Office” though. Truly.

FFS, two of you here are talking about the guy without spelling either of his names correctly and he's been around long enough that it's not hard to get it right. Even if you hate him, as one of you does. Idris Elba.

You’re right. And I thought the spelling looked off but I was too lazy to check and didnt want to be “that” person for correcting someone else when I was just chiming in to agree. And I’m pretty certain he isn’t gonna hop on here to get offended.
He’s still great even though I didn’t spell his name correctly.

I gotta say, friends, this thread is SO REFRESHING after the celebrity AI/bots/PR spam of the past few weeks.

Ahh, the cool, clean water of real opinions from real people who don't worship the famous.

Jon Hamm has very limited range as an actor. Although he was a decent fit for the Don Draper character, I often find him boring and often lacking versatility.
