It’s considered a sin by many denominations to proselytize.

People can only become a Christian through God, not other people.

Then why do so many people try so hard at it?

I'll tell you why....because brainwashing is real. Indoctrination is real. So after someone "teaches" you about this long enough, suddenly you "believe", and religious people will claim that God did it.

Where is religious indoctrination occurring in our country? Who is “teaching” people about religion, in what setting, that you consider indoctrination?

I don’t see anyone in America forced to pray or attend church, or be religious in any way. Are there secret indoctrination centers that the public doesn’t know about? Where?

You are making some pretty shocking claims that people are being brainwashed and indoctrinated in America, and you need to provide some proof of those accusations. Have you been investigating and gathering information and evidence this type of activity is occurring?

DP. It typically starts off at home. Many families force their kids to be religious.

Or sometimes people will prey on vulnerable people.

Every parent has an ideological point of view, and they do, then every non-religious parent also indoctrinates their children.

Is your point that parents should not teach their children about anything?

It’s one thing to teach your kid how to be kind to their siblings. It’s another to teach them to believe in supernatural stories.

How do we know parents are teaching their kids actual kindness? Or parents are teaching their kids a version of kindness that actually doesn’t represent what the child thinks as an individual and independent person? They could be teaching their kids what they personally think is kindness, but in reality the kid has their own opinion. We should not force our opinions on our kids, it’s wrong. Let your kid decide, they know what they think about their own lives and actions. Parents are limiting their children’s independence and development by imposing their beliefs on them from a young age. Children are born with knowledge that is destroyed by the choices of their parents. Everyone knows they have it inside them (their own instincts) to choose good and moral actions. Nobody needs a manual to know what’s right and wrong. Nobody needs to be taught, they already know what they think. Hint: that manual is someone else’s beliefs. Terrible.

I actually agree with a lot of what you said. I do think people/kids inherently fundamentally know right from wrong. But the finer points of EQ are acquired over time.

But why should parents indoctrinate their kids into thinking the way they do? Kids can choose their own lives. They don’t need to have any ideas inserted into their brains. Teaching a kid to obey their parents like a dog when they are young? What if the parents teach them the wrong things? Let kids decide what they want to do and who they want to be.

Sounds good to me.

At a minimum though, don’t teach them supernatural stories as if they are fact. Acknowledge the stories for what they are.

All kids should be instructed by the secular government that religion is made up fairy tales. Anyone who believes in that stuff is wrong.

Separation of church and state. Religious people can believe whatever nonsense they want without forcing it on others or into government. Government should not insert itself into religious beliefs unless it’s hurting other people.

Kids are being indoctrinated- that’s unconstitutional. Look at Amish kids- they can’t live normally, have to wear only a few colors of clothing. There parents don’t allow them to believe anything but what there religion tells them. They keep themselves separate and don’t allow “others ” to join their community, if they do it’s rare. Any kid born Amish has no chance of deciding their life. Jewish people are not as extreme but have rules about hats and food and driving cars on the Sabbath and not using dishes for different kinds of food. Muslims can’t eat meat unless the poor animals have slit throats. Catholics don’t eat meat on fridays, pray to some poor girl who was raped and forced to marry an old man?

Sounds good to me.

At a minimum though, don’t teach them supernatural stories as if they are fact. Acknowledge the stories for what they are.

All kids should be instructed by the secular government that religion is made up fairy tales. Anyone who believes in that stuff is wrong.

Separation of church and state. Religious people can believe whatever nonsense they want without forcing it on others or into government. Government should not insert itself into religious beliefs unless it’s hurting other people.

Religion is taking away health care for women. Religion is sexually abusing kids. Religion allows people to be discriminated against. There’s nothing good from Religion. You don’t get to tell anyone how religion is not hurting people, we know that is s lie.

You are 100% correct. I never said religion wasn’t hurting people. Religious people are not abiding by the separation of church and state. It is wrong and hurting many people.

So you don’t think religion is hurting people?

I absolutely think that religious people are hurting other people in the name of their religion.

Many, many humans are willfully ignorant. And in the US they have the right to keep their spawn ignorant as well. That’s just the way it is.
