So far, some posters have complained that their children talk too much about race and sexual orientation in classes. But how does studying race/racism/sexuality/identity or whatever indoctrinate children into a particular biased ideology?

I’m just upset they are not studying things holistically. Feel like they miss big picture bc they only study racial conflicts around the globe instead of world history. They don’t have a solid base beyond these very narrow topics, and have huge learning gaps.

I’m actually ok with some of this - as long as it’s not at the expense of teaching history.

That's quite the leap you've made. What makes you think these things are mutually exclusive? I dispute your premise.

DP: What PP above is 100% obvious if you have had kids schooled in DC. History classes are a provincial and biased joke.

They are also a joke when they skip the Tulsa massacre and state Rosa Parks was removed from a bus, but not why.

Similarly, outside metro DC, most of educated society does not talk or obsess about politics on a daily basis. People talk about other stuff, like kids, sports, books, hobbies, etc.

If the above is how OP feels, then I sympathize with the feeling. I would like a school that focuses on reading, writing, arithmetic, and teaching all of our history (good and bad) not just selective history in either a left or right perspective.

Left Culture War: Equality and options for all kids
Right Culture War: Only White straight Christians need apply

But bOtH sIdEs

99% of Americans are neither of these things.

And yet many still vote for Republicans, whose official party platform is enshrined in bigotry and exclusion.

You're literally crazy. How can you afford private tuition -- family money?

The current GOP platform is literally fealty to Trump. they didn't write a new one or adopt the 2016 one in 2020.

Exactly.

As someone who fits rather squarely in the middle of the political spectrum, I see the intolerant extremism of the far left AND the far right. The PP can mock “both sides,” but that’s exactly what they are: sides. Many of us fall in the middle.

The extremism on the right is codified by the actions of government officials using their power to ban books, silence corporations etc. The exrtremism on the left is activists. There is kind of a difference, no?

I see progressive activists taking a huge part in local government. I see conservative action on a federal scale. They both worry me and I don’t think either is representative of the majority of America. Both shut down opposing viewpoints.

ban books.... sure

you mean you can no longer buy them?

and your local library stocks ALL books regardless of how prurient or awful they might be? torture porn? everything?

or do they all draw the line somewhere, and Rs are just trying to move that line in the other direction a bit?

also, just out of curiosity, can you think of any LEFT extremists who have been booted by payment processors and social media companies and hosting companies and the other things required to interact with the public these days?....

would you say that the corporate values of all those companies whose services are so key to modern life, would you say that they're more on the RIGHT, or the LEFT?.....

tell me again who's got all the power

While that may be true, only one side is actually inclusive.

Sigh. You keep talking about sides, and the point is that most people are not on "a side."

Bingo

Wish there was a better way for people who aren’t on a side to exercise power

This would probably be an interesting discussion...in the Political Discussion Forum. But, it doesn't really belong in a schools forum.
