Then why is crime also up in conservative areas?

Conspicuous lack of any direct answer to this question! Better create a distraction! BLM! Leftists! Look over there!!

It’s not. Doesn’t hold a candle to Dem city crime sprees.
Even if you’re using a Covid year base or not accounting for loser thugs with stolen cars driving to urban suburbs to smash & grab stores, car jack cars or parts, or loot Amazon trucks and packages.

Alaska is the most violent state in America right now.

Pls remember to your labels and definitions. Don’t be a nutjob again.

I don’t see you posting any data or citations yourself. Hypocrite?

Thx nutjob. We’ll all take alaska for $1000.

Because central business districts across the country lost a lot of business since the COVID caused increase in working from home.

Sorry why did they get looted and graffitied in summer 2020? People were sick from Covid?

Dude, wake up.

You’re the one acting like covid didn’t cause any declines in business activity.
gawd are you dense and pathetic.

Says the person still complaining about BLM in the middle of 2023.

Nutjob proves it again!

The driving is the biggest issue. I love that I don't HAVE to drive in DC. I have a car and it has been vandalized almost every single year. I hear the horror stories across the city and it does not provide psychological safety.

Everything is a trade off. Sure, I can move somewhere with a lot less crime, but add an hour to my commute daily and lose the same sense of community I have where I am. I like that I can walk/bike most places now -- easy incidental exercise, better for the environment, better for my mental health. Losing that isn't a small thing to me.

Yeah!

I love living in city with rampant vandals. I can walk soo many places. Like the empty cvs, or shut down Walmart, closed up restaurant. And from 7pm-11pm I can hear no-headlights ATV races all around the streets.

Thank goodness my Hondas were all stolen or parted out.

It's far easier to get away with crime in rural areas. A lot of the crime that occurs out there is underreported when you only have a handful of cops to cover 500+ square miles of area.

Lol.
I’ll take rural whatever over south side Chicago, Baltimore, anacostia for $500 please.

Why would crime drop from 2017-2022 if BLM or lax prosecutors are to blame? Why us crime also higher today in conservative states and districts if this is a political problem?

Homicide Trend

The population went up 100k people during that same period. Of course raw numbers would increase. It is also not a linear increase and not linked to any prosecutorial or political changes.

In 2022, the DC murder rate was 30 per 100,000 residents. Statistically speaking this isn't any different from DC's 2006 murder rate of 29 per 100,000. As an aside, I moved to DC in 1994; the murder rate that year was 70 per 100,000 residents. Now, that's a statistically significant change.

So people are racist MAGAs because they'd rather not live in some of the highest crime areas of the country? Get a grip

Rural areas are also some of the highest crime areas of the country. So then yes if you would rather live in white high crime areas over black high crime areas then you are a racist. Pretty simple.

I lived here in the 90s and there was a general sense that one could stick to certain neighborhoods and be mostly safe. The spirit of lawlessness now pervades the entire city.

Rural areas are also more dangerous for law enforcement as well. They have to deal with SovCits and drug runners that have no qualms about engaging and killing LEOs.

This is OP. The person trying to argue that the city isn't seeing increased crime is ridiculous. We live here. We see it. There have been multiple armed car-jackings, a brazen mid-day burglary and several shootings within a few blocks from my house, all in the last two years. We never had serious crime in this neighborhood 5 years ago. Just this week, Mayor Bowser announced a bunch of measures to address rising crime. This isn't some imaginary problem.

I don't care if other cities or red states are seeing an increase in crime. So what? This thread is about trying to figure out if the District of Columbia is going to get its act together so folks can stop feeling unsafe.
