Cognitive Dissonance

Had to bike on well laid bike paths from my home in NW down into SW. had to get lunch by walking through the hellacious eastern market where there were vendors and restaurants that wanted to sell me delicious food from different cultures. Then, I had to pay zero dollars to swim in a beautifully maintained pool that I get access to for free. And now I have to sit on my porch and have beers with a few neighbors. What a terrible city

So people actually live in Wards 7 and 8, though.

To the PP before, good for you but please remember there are neighbors who lost their lives or were badly wounded. They include women, teachers, doctors and many teens. Brig tone-deaf, selfish, not listening to the residents and being generally convinced of one’s own infallibility are what got us into this predicament as far as the DC Council goes.

On Twitter, @RealTimeNews10, a citizen reporter, did a poll of how people really feel and it’s a sobering read.

Literally by any polling done- people in the DMV are asking, BEGGING for more policing.

And then the council throws this out there, gets hit in the nose with a newspaper by a bipartisan vote in both the house and the senate and instead of taking their medicine- decides to double down on it. Incredible.

No, even adults are undercharged and pled down. USAO had a press release this week of a carjacker sentenced to 5 years. The minimum sentence for carjacking in DC is currently 15 years but he was undercharged despite having prior weapons convictions.

Yes, the handling of juveniles is problematic but it is the way the laws have been changed, esp under Charles Allen. Even the 15 yr old who murdered another 15 year old then tried to carjack and shot a football player will only be held until he is 21. Same with the girl with the more serious charges for murdering the Uber Eats driver in Navy Yard.

Council really screwed up. They need to go back and fix the bill.

50ish followers of a crime account reported crime stories, some of which took place years ago. Others said they felt unsafe based on reports from, wow, realtimenews. Very sobering read, indeed.

Signed, semi-intellectual deluded servants of a pretty poor excuse for an ideology

Obviously it’s not a scientific poll. But it lays to rest the canard that caring about crime is racist.

I suspect that whatever hold DC Justice Lab has over them plays a significant role in an otherwise baffling response. Follow the $? Of course, their funding is quite murky. They had a voting seat, one of five on the commission, and drafted much of both the bill and the messaging.

That’s what you don’t get; this is not a debate and about scoring cheap political points for the residents.
